Who will win The Game Of Thrones?

A man that is married for 50 years dies under the knife getting some heart work done, does he and his wife have to get remarried?

A Jar Head drowns in the pool at boot camp. On the side of the pool they get his heart going and him breathing again. Is his oath to the suck fulfilled?

I am sure what you think is what is going to happen, but I hope not. I waited a long time for this last book and I did not think it was good at all. If I have to wait 7 years for the next one, he plays grey with the oath and the book so,so I will be done.

Well Martin's killed off about all the other characters worth anything.
Jon is about our last hope for a ruler he isn't a scumbag or worse some BS last minute pull the rabbit out of the hat character.

What about Aegon?

If Martin is true to form I believe we will see a new world order for Westeros at the end of the series. The War of the Five Kings has already begun to see massive social changes across the Seven Kingdoms and the advent of the Others will only speed this change on. I haven't a clue how it will end, but I would place a bet on no one sitting the Iron Throne at the end of the series. Of course there is also the possibility of a huge anti-climax.

I hadn't considered that idea....seems the realm would be a better place if not for that damned iron chair.

Where did Aegon come from?
The whole Griffin subplot feels like some kind of kludge thrown into the story to stretch out the franchise and line GRRMs pockets.

frankly i'd have to agree with you on this. Given that the Aegon/Griffin subplot came from the forums LONG before it was even vaguely referenced in the books. And thanks to these pages, R+L=J will almost certainly turn out to be true... but not because GRRM wanted it to be so in the beginning. Solely because of so many forumites believing it to be true.

Not to me, where they entered the story seems right to me.

Varys sends Dany and her Brother off into the long grass to get them out of the way. I should say to get Dany's brother out of Aegons way. He had no way to know Dany would come out of that, the way she did. Varys Pulling the strings knew he had Aegon. So Aegon has alway been a part of the story.

Aegon the Conqueror the first king on the iron throne. So now you have Aegon trying to win it back.

I agree with grip junky. Aegon entered the game at a perfect moment. Viserys is dead and cannot make trouble about him being the imposter and Dany probably won't either way. But if we believe Varys in his claim that he cares about the realm, then bringing Viserys was never an option.
When Varys talks to Kevan at the end of ADWD, he says that Aegon was raised to be the best ruler. Assuming that Varys wants the best ruler on the Iron Throne, conclusion is that Aegon was always the one intended by Varys to take the Throne. When you look at it that way, Aegon suddenly entering the game is perfectly logical.

I disagree with this. GRRM said that the only thing that ever influenced his writing was the actresses portrayal of Osha and that he decided to give her a bigger role.
Would "forumites" be so convinced R+L=J if Martin hadn't given so many clues? Or that Aegon was somehow alive if it wasn't mentioned one time too many that baby Aegon's head was smashed beyond real recognition?
If nobody saw the character's severed head (unless they sever the head, they might still be alive or undead) undamaged and before composition then the character might still be alive.

For a fabricated plot sequence pulled out of the writers magic hat.
Not that you couldn't be absolutely right, I'm just not sure I buy it. :)

And would GRRM admit to selling out ala WoT?

And would GRRM admit to selling out ala WoT?

Why would Varys send Visery off with the Dothraki. They have no ships, no constant leadership, would not fight that well as an army and if they did make it over the sea and helped Visery win the throne they would be the Saons? I would say he wanted him out of the way.

I cannot answer that since I don't think he is selling out nor did I ever say he would say so. I just said in that quoted part that it is possible to influence his plot plans so that nobody would shove that in my face. Selling out would imply changing his intended plot line to get more money and more fans.
Fans like his novels because they are unpredictable. If he were to become completely predictable for the sake of his fans' conjectures coming true, I think he'd lose a substantial portion of his fan-base and I think he is aware of that. I don't think he would risk the fans he has for fans he might never get or try to please fans he has (they are already buying books so why do exactly what they want?).
So far, everything fits to the plot that already happened and everything that was mentioned. We won't really know if he sold out until the last book though. It will definitely be a bitter-sweet ending and bitter to sweet ratio will give us the final conclusion about all of this.

P.S. I hope you'll understand what I'm trying to say. I'm too tired to think whether I've explained it like I should.

Perhaps.
You may be absolutly right.

I have to admit I was very dissatisfied with the latest installemnt of ASOIAF and may be letting this color my judgement.

It seemed to me everything about the book except the Griffin storyline was filler. A lot of text that went nowhere. And the Griffin line was like, hmmmm, better write this story and insert it quick so I can catch it up wth the other storylines.

(jmho)

I agree, more or less. I posted this a year ago when Ursa asked whether or not GRRM had lost the plot, and I still think it's fairly accurate.

It's not the winning, it's the taking part.....????

I have to admit to floundering with all the characters and all the characters, so unfortunately, I don't care who wins, but I'd be happy for someone to let me know.:)

Hmm, who do I think will win the game...I'll tell you who I think will be in the small council:

if the north has a king,
King of the North: Jon Snow or Arya Stark

King of the South or King of the Seven Kingdoms: Aegon Targaryen
Small Council:
Tyrion Lannister as Hand of the King
Varys as Master of Whisperers

I think it will be split between the North and the South.

Jon will be King of the North. This is a given. We've known it from the start that Jon is the key to the whole story.
Danaerys will be Queen of the South. She is practically on her way back now, with the ironborn and their fleet over that side of the world looking for her.
