Who will win The Game Of Thrones?

The lords of the Seven Kingdoms know the history of Aegon's Conquest. They know what happened to the lords who did not bend the knee. Royal House Gardener... extinct. King Harren the Black and all his sons... dead. Royal House Baratheon... usurped. They also know what happened to those who did bend the knee. House Lannister... a chance to continue scheming. House Stark... survived. House Arryn... survived. House Tully... generously rewarded. House Tyrell... generously rewarded.

If Dany shows up with three battle dragons, every lord who loves his life, legacy, and children will rush to put his face in the dirt and his arse in the air... especially if Dany allies herself with Aegon's growing power. In this case, there will not be any independent areas of the Seven Kingdoms. In fact, I'd be interested to see if Dany has an interest in Pentos os some of the other Free Cities.

I know it's very much an outside chance but has anyone thought maybe Gendry might play a part, he is Robert's illegitimate son and he knows nothing about ruling but why even make mention of him if he does not have a bigger part to play?

I've been waiting for five books for Gendry to become meaningful in some way!

I think there's a passage in one of the books (can't remember where) debating whether the cold brings the Walkers or the Walkers bring the cold. If the Walkers bring the cold and they are destroyed then maybe it's also the end of winters?

I only just re-read this part. It's Samwell and Jon Snow talking about at the start of AFFC when Jon is about to send Sam away. Sam has been down in the library reading, and he talks about the recounts of older times. Some describe it as the white walkers coming only in winter, and some as winter coming with the white walkers.

Seeing as the seasons are irregular it would make sense if it was the latter option, that winter comes as the white walkers gain strength somehow?

This is what I hope won't be spoiled for us by the HBO series...

EDIT: Dangit, I thought this second message would automatically attach itself to my previous one. Sorry about the double posting.

i wasn't sure where to post this but I think this thread is the most relevant.

I think Rickon is going to turn out to be either extremely influential, powerful or important.

It has been established, debated and established again that GRRM has known all along how the series was going to end (more or less). Granted it has taken 7 books rather than 3, but he knows how he wants to end it. There are plot lines that Martin thought out and has stuck to and I think Rickon's is one of them. I think Martin has big plans for Rickon, or at least important plans for him.

I think the things going on at Skagos have been planned from the onset. Rickon was destined to be there. In Game of Thrones, there is a scene in which Shaggydog assaults Maester Luwin in the cripts. once Summer gets Shaggy off the old maester, shaggy returns to Rickon's side and we get this line

"Rickon patted Shaggydog's muzzle, damp with blood. "I let him loose. He doesn't like chains." He licked at his fingers."

Does anybody else thinks it is Effed Up that he is basically drinking Maester Luwin's blood? No wonder he ends up at an island of cannibals.
