Thanks for the thought, and the vote Grizzgreen - I really was not expecting anything this month so it's a huge smile.

And thanks Nixie for ironing it out.

I can't say how hard it has been narrowing that short list down.

Ultimately it came down to three, so an extra special mention for Parson, Alchemist and Ursa. (and a second mention for Alchemist and Stormfeather 'cause to help me make up my mind I read them out loud and Mrs P. really liked those two).

But ultimately Ursa's just tickled me, but it was so close I nearly got my dice out...

Well, it's a shorter shortlist and a longer shorter list than usual this time, if that makes any sense -- it sure did make it hard to *vote*, at any rate!

There were several I really liked that I just couldn't figure out where the redemption was -- I'm sure the fault is mine, but I just couldn't put them on the list.

Hex -- Selkie
*Phyrebrat -- The RMS Iceberg*
Anne Martin -- Redemption Guaranteed
chrispenycate -- I Blame the Parents
Harebrain -- A Tale Told Beneath a Thorn Tree
Dozmonic -- Trading Standards
alchemist -- I Know
Moonbat -- The Cust-Ogre is Always Right
mosaix -- A Question of Guilt
Stormfeather -- A Cauutionary Tail
Ursa major -- Defective Goods
TheEndIsNigh -- The Queue Jumper
Culhwch -- Son of Empire

Oh lordy. And possibly lawks.

I thought I had better do a short list this time. More difficult than I imagined........

Anyway, here goes:

Hex - What can I say? I'm a sucker for folklore.
Glen - Says it all about estate agents.
Moonbat - Gloriously daft.
Mosaix - I like cynical humour!
TheEndIsNigh
- See above. And I always thought that EB*y was an invention of the Devil anyway.:D

And the winner is.......

HEX - For the folkloric goodness.

Thanks for the vote paranoid marvin and the mention Polarity Man :)

My short list was

Perpetual Man
Alchemist
Moonbat
Hopewrites
Springs1971
Southron Sword

and my vote went to Harebrain.

The short list:-

The Spurring Platty
Nixie
Alchemist
Boneman

Vote went to

Glen

Who I thought captured the spirit of these troubled times.

Thanks to:-

TDZ
High Eight

for the mentions.

Woo hoo! A shortlisting (thanks, TDZ!) and a... a vote! Many thanks, High Eight.

Bounce bounce bouncey bounce bounce.

Thanks for the shortlisting, TDZ!

Ack! And for the vote, Glen! (Should have checked before posting.)

First of all I'd like to say thanks to all those who have mentioned or short listed me. I really enjoy seeing the lists people draw up and if my name happens to be on one I am very pleased.
Secondly, thank you very much to Mosaix, Natalienoo, nixie, Talysia and telford for thier votes. :) :)

And then thirdly, what a difficult descision it has been this month. I have spent days reading through all the stories and for those on my shortlist I would have been better off putting copies into a word document so I could skim back and forth over them all for comparison, rather than have to load the different pages of the thread each time.
Anyhoo, here is my shortlist, my shorter list and my *vote*

Spurring Platty – All's well, that
*reiver33 – The Lombards of gehenna*
quokka – sire
Hex- Selkie
phyrebat – The RMS iceberg
Glen – redemption
Abernovo – stepping up
monsterchic – untitlted
Anne Martin- redemption guaranteed
nixie – exodus
Boneman – survival of the fittest
mosaix – a question of guilt
stormfeather – a cautionary tail
ursa major – defective goods

In the end I went for Reiver33 mainly for the descriptive prose, a very Reiver-esque tale and, as always, well executed.

Just voted - my short list was:-

Boneman
Parson
Moonbat
Stormfeather

and the final nod for originality goes to.....

MOONBAT!
