Thanks for the mention, Abernovo, and for the shortlistings, Anya, Moonbat, TacticalLoco and Perp; you've all managed to put a very big smile on my face.

Also, thanks for the top six shortlisting, johnnyjet – and for making that smile even bigger.

And a big, big thanks to Major Shake for the vote – you've made my day! :D

wow Moonbat thanks for the vote. I managed to be restrained and not squeal. One vote and one mention - I'm happy :)

After that I actually went and read it again lol.

With so many entries, I ended up with an extra layer of lists this time. So, the shortlist which really isn't very short, the shorter list, the *ones that made me tear my hair out deciding among them*, and **the vote**.

AMB -- With His Dying Breath Be Known
springs1971 -- The Nun's Walk
stormcrow -- Why we seldom see fairies...
paranoid marvin -- Probing Questions
Aun Doorback -- Brave New World
juelz4sure -- And so it was written
crystalhaven -- A Heart of Stone
Glen -- I Second That Emotion
**Kaladan -- Consequences**
Vertigo -- Marduk's Eternal Duty
*johnnyjet -- Hopelessly Devoted to*
HareBrain -- Woodwitch
mosaix -- Last Words
Stormfeather -- At What Cost?
slindeman -- Hindsight is 20/20
Teresa Edgerton -- The Dead Can Weep
Bob S. Sr -- The Railroad Man
*The Judge -- Mother Love*

There were a couple that I really liked but couldn't quite see the theme, and a couple that I really liked but couldn't quite see a whole story, or the list would have been even longer.

TheDustyZebra - Thank you for the mention on your shorter list; I am so pleased you liked my story.

And Mosaix - Thank you for putting me on your short list. To get this far out of so many great entries is wonderful. :)

Thanks everyone for the mentions, surprised to see I had a vote!

My short list was between AMB, Boneman and TheDustyZebra, with the Zebra just pipping the others to the post. Such powerful imagery.

Lord that was tough. There were so many excellent entries I really struggled to choose, but here's my final list (Runners Up, Vote):

Alchemist -- A Prayer for evolution -- Brilliant; particularly loved the /enter replacing amen
Crystal haven -- A heart of stone -- Sent shivers up my spine
Glen -- I second that emotion -- So funny I really did laugh out loud
HareBrain -- Woodwitch -- Spooky and unsettling
Heoru -- The Fresh Flowers -- Simple and so touching
Hex -- Consumation -- After reading the last line you just have to read it all again
HoopyFrood -- Book Bound -- Another tragic one
Hopewrites -- The day food talked back -- Visions of the cow in Restaurant at the End of the Universe
Karn -- The Last Guardian Angel -- There was a stark simplicity to this that carried the theme beautifully
Perpetual Man -- Chrons -- So funny and so close to all our hearts
Reiver33 -- Quis ut Deus -- Incredibly touching. I understood it to be Archangel Michael handing his sword to the devoted husband
Springs -- The nun's walk -- Unlike others I didn't see this as directly sexual but more a conflict of religions
Stormcrow -- Why we seldom see fairies… -- Moving and tragic
Stormfeather -- At what cost? -- The ultimate sacrifice; so sad
Teresa Edgerton -- The Dead Can Weep -- Ah… so sad yet ultimately hopeful
The Judge -- Mother Love -- Oh yes dark obsessive devotion

And thank you for the mention TDZ and I have a vote!!! :D Thank you Glen

Missing no more.

Thanks. Haven't been over to the poll yet. I might be hard put to vote this go round. Hospital calls, Extra service, a pictorial directory being made, a Centennial (for the church to help plan) shesh! I might need to actually stop sleeping. Hmmm! Sleeping or Chrons? I pick Chrons.

Thank you to Nixie, Vertigo, TDZ - so pleased this one went down well.

My vote goes to The Dusty Zebra. A great story, beautifully delivered.

My runners-up:
Crystal Haven. I find this really haunting. It's a lovely piece of work.
Kaladan. Great stuff, a splendidly wicked notion.

I had a shortlist including:
Aun Doorback
Harebrain
David Evil Overlord
Phoenix the Writer
Paranoid Marvin
Hopewrites
Springs1971
Teresa Edgerton
Phyrebrat

All excellent stories!

Well, it's Oscar weekend, so....

The academy can only give out so many awards, but it would like you all to express your appreciation for the fine work this month by the following writers:

paranoid marvin
David Evil Overlord
Parson
Moonbat
chrispenycate
slindeman

Now, before the award for best story, let's review the individual category winners, who all have a chance at the top award:

springs1971 for The Nun's Walk; Gwyneth Paltrow, best female actor in a leading role *Gwyneth smiles angelically*

Scott R Forshaw for The Butcher of ol' Howfen; best catering. *Gwyneth appears pale at the clip of TBOOH. Or is she? Who can tell anymore?*

crystal haven for A heart of stone; best set design *Gwyneth cries, but is it real? Who can tell anymore?*

Glen for I second that emotion; best costumes *Richard Dreyfus (or is it?) takes a bow*

Kaladan for Consequences; best actor *John Travolta as Death, takes the applause. Yet another comeback, and after Battlefield Earth, who would have believed that?*

HareBrain for Woodwitch, best make-up. *Keanu Reeves as animate wood. Ironic, they said.

And the winner is: *drumroll; sound of Charlie Sheen being sick*

crystal haven for A heart of stone. *Gwyneth cries, Keanu impassive; but are they real? Who can tell anymore?*

I'd just like to say *sobs* my warm congratulations to crystal and thank Alc and the academy for nominating me *sobs* and I'd like to thank my cat for his - *curtaain down*

Lucky escape all :D

Have given it all a lot of thought and come to the conclusion that it's unfair having to choose!

Managed to whittle my long short list down to a proper short list:

Nixie
Tisiphone
Chris
Bob
TJ
Olive Sky

But there were two that stuck with me from the moment I read them, so:

Bob and Olive can run through the finish line hand in hand.

How I was meant to choose between those two, I do not know, then figured there was only one that made me write my comments with a smile on mah face as ah tried t'emulate it.

The vote by a split cat's whisker goes to Bob.

Does this not fit what my story was about, Parson is off that confounded Chrons bar, rather than sleepin'.

And Vertigo thanks for the mention.

Thanks, Springs.

Alchemist - thank you for the vote, what a lovely surprise. And thank you, James Coote.

And thank you everyone that's put me on their shortlist, and for the lovely comments. I'm dancing with joy now - not a pretty sight!

I've still to decide on my winner. It is so hard.
