Discussion -- 300 Word Challenge #5

I had an idea just before I went to sleep last might. Couldn't be bothered to write anything down, though.

Woke up this morning. Could I still remember it...?

Well, yes, actually. (To be honest, I often have more trouble recalling stuff from ten seconds ago - e.g. did I lock that door? did I turn that gas off? - than from the previous evening.)

So I've got it down to 298 words (or 299 if one counts pre-Enlightenment as two words). However, with the luxury of not having to post immediately (because the deadline, for once, is not imminent), I think I'll set it aside to read (and post) later.

Am enjoying the prospect of catching up with both this thread & more importantly the stories themselves!

Posted now.

I'm glad I waited before posting. While I'd wanted my story to be a little bit cryptic (what's new there, some may cry), I had, inadvertently, gone too far down that road.

Now, I hope, fixed, the text is a few words shorter. Which must be a good thing.

The writing challenges are going from strength to strength not only did we have a record number of entries in April's 75 word challenge, this quarters 300 challenge already has a record number of entries. Everyone who has entered the challenges deserves a pat on the back. All should be proud and consider themselves a winner votes or no votes.

Well, it's in. That's about all I can say for it, though. And I'm going to have to stop all this working-to-the-wire stuff, since it leaves me no time to do all the fiddling and editing and general fussing over my stories, without which I don't feel they're complete. And I just know I should have given the book he's reading a title, but I couldn't think of the perfect one. It will doubtless come to me tomorrow.

Ursa, crypt-ic...?? :D Was that one intended?

And I just know I should have given the book he's reading a title, but I couldn't think of the perfect one.

A Call To Arms -- Alan Dean Foster?

But that would be seven extra words. Excellent story, TJ.

I must now read all the stories. I'm gonna need a bigger spreadsheet.

TJ I think the book works better without a title. It makes it seem insignificant compared to what he's being asked to do.

Well, it's in. That's about all I can say for it, though.

I hear you, TJ. I think this has been the worst month for me in both challenges - I really had to force an idea on the last day just to get something down. But I've got something down, and I haven't missed a challenge yet, so post it I will...

But will you be the last, Cul?

There's a few short minutes to go....

Well, they were all really good, and with free time in class tonight, I got some reading done. My shortlist:

Warren Paul - In This Hall I Do Not Speak
Springs1971 - IS THIS THE DAY?
Mouse - The Only Explanation
Hopewrites - Bedtime Story
Aun Doorback
- A roll of the Dice
The Judge - Steel Body, Stone Heart?
Culhwch - The Silent Dark

Votes are in italics. Great job everyone!! :)

Where has the time been going?

Well, my votes are in. A bit of this, a bit of that, and some advice from a cat in a hat....I think he was wearing a bowler. That was yellow.

Went with mouse for cheeky cleverness, Forshaw for his inlaid humor, and dear old TE for managing to combine Greek mythology with futurism.

Come to think of it, I wonder what would have happened if one were to combine all three of their entries in one...? ;)
