Discussion -- 75 Word Challenge -- APRIL

I would just like to defend my status as frantic-to-post by explaining that the first time I wrote a story for the challenge ('Crime and Punishment') I spent ages honing 75 words on Prometheus, and planned to post it the next day only to discover that someone else (Hoopyfrood?) had done it while I waited -- and her/their story was much better than mine.

This has been a brilliant month. I have no idea who to vote for.

I second the last two sentences.

I found 75 words difficult to manage. Started out with 150, had to combine two sentences and delete three. At least I'm learning how to edit, and get as much in one paragraph as possible.

"Urgh!"
*Deletes word*
**Struggle**
*Deletes another*
"ARGHNARGHLUMRMPHUHUMMLEERRRR!"
*Deletes another*

...Just about ready to post!

WHAT A MONTH !
I have no idea where my vote will go.
I am awe-struck.

I have been for----one man--one vote, all along, but this month 6 votes wouldn't be too many.

Bob

I can only imagine the length of some of the preliminary lists we will all be making before we whittle them down to our short lists (which may not be particularly short), with such an incredible wealth of great stories.

Still smiling, should I be is harder to answer!

Voting time soon, I will be dipping into Chrons during a lot over the next few days to keep an eye on the voting. Not long now and time to rock.

Digs, members who've played truant for nine months aren't allowed to post such good entries. You've still got time to edit it into a piece of crap.

Eek. It's the last day again, and I still haven't got a whiff of a story...

However, since I am the bringer of excellent news, I expect everone to look favourably on my piece as and when I post it at the eleventh hour and fifty-ninth minute, for...

*drum roll, blare of trumpets*

WE HAVE THREE VOTES FOR THIS CHALLENGE!!! Three. 3. That's 1 + 2.

Yes, in a fit of extravagance, the mods have decided to honour the second anniversary of the 75 worder with a present!

BUT REMEMBER those 3 votes have to be cast all at the same time -- you can't cast one, then log off and come back later after you've thought about it to vote for the other two.

And remember also who brought this good news...

That's an exciting innovation! I will try to use my votes wisely.

Presumably we can't use all votes on the same story...or on one's own story...

Same rules as for multiple voting in the 300 worder, Glen -- no voting for oneself, no voting twice (or three times) for the same story.

Just as well I was stuck on three anyway. I will review your last minute post Judge just to be fair. Some shameless soliciting of votes there!

If the Judge is worried then its a good sign that this months 75 word challenge has been of a very high standard, which I think it has been. Roll on the deadline.

Yay three votes!
I would just like to say now that I'm sorry to everyone who's story I didn't get to comment on. I just figured out how to view the forum on my phone so I should be able to keep up with reading as the last seconders post. But I won't have time to finish commenting because I have life things taking up all my time this week.
Some really clever entries in those last two pages and all well done.

I thought that's what I did! It's been too long since I flexed my 75-word muscles, and I'd forgotten how hard it was. My original draft was 300,000 words long and included a lengthy subplot about a young Trotskyite professor in 1960s Nigeria and a sentient cheese wedge with a psychic connection to a jaded submarine captain in an alternate steampunk universe where Napoleon won at Waterloo. I've been editing it down all day.

Feels good to be back though.
