As an aside there is a film of essentially just that happening, Teresa. I can't remember the title but a teenage brother and sister "step into" an old black and white tv soap and then start accidentally (at first) adding colour. Its actually a fairly vicious satire on racism, so not quite the Wizard of Oz.

Pleasentvill.

Cute movie. I also liked the witty commentary on what Hollywood was like black and white vs color.

I have so far come up with an absolute blank when I look at this picture. It wasn't what I was expecting at all and I think my imagination has gone a little stunned-mullet on me...

I love it! Going to have to really wrack the ol' noggin to come up with something for this - great mental exercise. Beats getting off the couch, that's for sure.

Also, Scotland! I'm going to Glasgow for a 6 month uni exchange in little over a month...hopefully I don't come back in sepia, although I can't say it wouldn't be an improvement on my current skin tone. :p

I'm tempted to ask if you turn to sepia when you arrive there.

Which reminds me of a question one of my children asked me a long time ago. She had the idea that old black-and-white movies depicted life as it really was, and she wanted to know when the whole world turned to color.

That would have been amazing, if it really happened, wouldn't it -- like Dorothy opening the door in The Wizard of Oz.

I know I definitely used to think the world was black and white because of old films. And my friend did, too, because her dad told her that that moment in Wizard of Oz was when colour was invented and they just carried on filming!

I've definitely got something, but how come cutting a story down to three hundred words is so much harder than seventy-five?

Thirteen more words to go.....

Tell me about it! I had over 500 words to start with but cut it down to 299, so I am pretty pleased. Just waiting to post now. :)

My story wants to be 500 words long.

I've edited it down to 300 in about seven different ways, but when I come back afterwards to read it, it makes no sense.

My story is finished except for one word that I want to change if I can come up with a better one to say what I want to say. Of course it may turn out that I'll need more than one word to say it. Isn't that always the way? Fortunately, I have a few spares.

And plenty of time left to obsess over it, to change the word and change it back again a thousand times.

For me, sometimes the last word is more difficult than the other 299 combined.

Well, you have until the 31st to think of something and make up your mind, so you may surprise yourself, Karn.

True enough, but still, this one is pretty challenging. I want to try to fit paranormal into 300 because I just can't feel anything else from the photo. And I do sincerely hope Seph isn't upset with me at saying his town looks like a paranormal paradise. ;)

Oooh you watch it or we'll come and invade you. With claymores.

(although I think we might have tried that once or twice before).

Indeed, we have quite a strong contingent up here, doubly so 'cos of where we live!

And don't forget you can give me a knock on the way down. I can fit Ursa in my chariot as we go past Darlington.:)

Don't forget us Scot's who happened to immigrate to the States yet still hold to our heritage! My ancestors were Borderers with a long history in the Middle Marches and on my Maternal side we have kept the Clan name alive through all the males by ensuring that we all bare it as our middle name. Even my own daughters are proud of their heritage. :D

As to the picture it brought to mind many things and made me feel that perhaps it's time I tried my hand at these challenges again. Though to my mind the picture evokes a grim wind whistling threw a lost ruin. Wonder what will come of that? :p
