I had not noticed until you mentioned it TDZ, it looks rather cool.
OIAD LAIAD OL ANGELS
In an attempt to distract from the nail biting race to the finish line I did say I’d run through my entry.
This was something a lot different for me, because for the first time I went with something that was totally for me, I did not expect anyone else to understand it, or even like it, so the vote from Karn was a massive smile inducing surprise.
I had quite a few ideas in the end – trying to write an extra scene from a forgotten Shakespeare play featuring the attempt to save Henry VIII’s male children, through to a steam powered contraption to help the same king walk toward the end of his life.
But I went with this.
It is centred around the philosopher, scientist , spiritualist and magician (amongst other things) John Dee.
In a dark glass I see the black ignite,
He and his ‘colleague’ Edward Kelley believed that they could speak with Angels. It was all quite incredible, conversed in their (the angels) natural language called Enochian. They used as a medium a black obsidian glass with which they so conversed. (The glass is in the British Museum)
A glorious fire – Heaven’s light,
In a moment all things are known,
In this instance he gazes into the glass and sees things that he probably wishes he did not.
The fall of my Queen to my death at home,
He received a strong patronage from Queen Elizabeth, but lost it all when she passed away and James I took over. Despite having a great deal of success at one point his loss of patronage left him with next to nothing and he died in near poverty at home.
I see again my loss of pride,
The sharing of my bride.
While conducting their experiments Kelley and Dee ‘spoke’ constantly with one angel, Uriel and with Kelley doing the translating it seems that for various reasons the angel told them that they had to share each others wives. Of course this was so unbelievably preposterous that Dee bought it immediately, and Kelley had his wicked way with Mrs Dee. Strangely enough this soured their relationship and they never worked together again.
I who had the ear of Queen’s,
Dee was not only an advisor to good queen Bess, but he didn’t do too badly with Bloody Mary either, especially when she was ready to burn him at a stake, something he managed to talk himself out of.
Was in my trust too naive,
Wish by Mary had been burned alive:
Should speak for itself, he idiotically trusted Kelley but managed a miracle with Mary.
In my glass true Uriel sighed,
This time though he’s doing it alone, and the real Uriel speaks to him, not Kelley pretending and tells him he said no such thing.
For in truth false Kelley lied.
Oops, sorry Mrs Dee.
And the title?
It’s in Enochian and reads: The Secret Truths of Angels (or something along those lines)
