Discussion thread -- 75 WORD WRITING CHALLENGE January 2013

Well, was not expecting anything this month, but a vote made this stinking cold a little less stinking.

Thanks to Monsterchic.

I didn't bother looking in yesterday, so this is a bit of a surprise -- my best showing in almost a year. (Makes note to herself to channel the Jackal on a permanent basis...) Glad my witterings amused you both, TDZ and Parson!

Thanks for the comments Starbeast, Victoria and Perp, and for the shortlistings Hex (Ha! Craziness, indeed!), Boneman (you ain't seen nothin' yet...), Perp, stormcrow and Scott, and big thanks to BigJ, mischov (mega thanks for the write up -- from a cyberpunk aficionado that's praise indeed!) and ratsy for the wholly unexpected votes.

A vote! A vote! Thank you Stormcrow! That'll go nicely with my caipirinha...

If I'd known that I wouldn't have mentioned you!!!;) Have a great holiday, and a glass of your choice on me for a great story!
Too late... ;)

High Eight and Eric, thanks for the shortlisting! :)

*Buys a round of beach-side cocktails for everyone and attempts to send some sunshine to the Northern Hemisphere crowd*

I did consider calling my entry 'Johnny Redux', as the book in question is, of course, the Bible (John 1:1), but thought that was being a bit heavy-handed.

I'm glad most of you seemed to enjoy this challenge!

Ty, bowler and boneman... So near and yer so far... Sigh :)

It was very good, Springs - it's just very stiff competition on here. Still, victory will taste all the more sweeter when I, ahem, you get it.

There are times when I feel like one of those monkeys trying to write Shakesphere, which reminds me - feeding time. Right you lot, one nana each, and keep typing...

'S ok, my little deviants are in my head somewhere, building character and will appear somewhere, i suspect, at some stage.... Am i the only one who gets lots of ideas form the comps? My last 2 book ideas have come from 75 worders....

Me too, Springs, me too. In fact I'd like to do something with my latest one; too big an idea to cram into 75 words... but a short story, maybe  with the interesting questions coming after the '75 word' intro.

Thanks for the comments Perp, Starbeast, and Victoria. I've been out of this for so long (and I don't think I really checked the discussion thread for the one I was in a couple of months ago) that I didn't realise we also had reviewers! Neat.

Also, thanks alchemist and Vertigo for the short listing.

---

I've got a very short list this month:

ratsy
Juliana
Talysia
Glen

I loved the conspiracy conjured up by the word-changing spider, and the story has stayed with me for about a fortnight, so my vote this month went to Talysia.

What a collection! I've whittled it down at last:

Hex -- The Love Bug
reiver33 -- Static Information Transfer Medium
alchemist -- New Year's Day in Shinoya Prefecture
Juliana -- Paradise Lost
Talysia -- Spider
Mischon -- Something in the Way She Moves
Luiglin -- Subarachnoid Space
digs -- The Surgineer
*mosaix -- The Colour of My Days*
Teresa Edgerton -- Blind Date
Boneman -- No Persuasion
Parson -- Altered Reality
Ursa major -- Not Quite the Singularity
The Judge -- Jacked. Hacked. Cracked

My shortlist: Hex, Juliana, Luiglin, Paranoid Marvin and TDZ, with my vote going to Paranoid Marvin.

Poetry isn't usually my thing but the fact that I didn't understand it entirely the first time round made me keep going back to it and I finally realised what great piece it was.

Thanks for the short list, Eric Ward and thanks for the vote TDZ. :)
