Discussion thread -- 75 WORD WRITING CHALLENGE January 2013

Another difficult choice this month, whittling the entries down to a shortlist, though there were quite a few I loved for their feel but when it came to it I didn't understand them. (Though that's not unexpected for me and cyberpunk!)

Anyway, my shortlisting:

BigJ -- Finding Self -- I loved the last line
Culhwch -- Pop Up Blocked -- for its sadness at its unending going-nowhere life
David Evil Overlord -- Children of the Evolution -- sinister
digs -- The Surgineer -- for the pathos of the final two lines
mosaix -- The Colour of My Days -- an enigmatic ending
Phyrebrat -- The Graft -- I liked this for the feeling of the city as much as the casual "then her hand"

After a great deal of cogitation and tossing of coins I've plumped for DEO as I loved the whole concept (and he gets a prize for the title, too!).

And special mentions to Aun Doorback for the punny last line and to HareBrain for Ebola Tombola...

Thanks to TDZ, crystal, nixie, Starbeast and johnnyjet for the shortlistings and big thanks to Juliana and Teresa for the votes!

Big thanks to High Eight for the vote, and also to those who mentioned mine.

If anyone wants something relaxing after the tension of the 75 vote, the photo challenge is now open for voting here.

Thanks for the mentions/shortlistings, and thankyou so much for the kind words and vote mosaix.

digs wins my vote; stunning entry.

It's getting down to the wire here, and several people still haven't voted.

Good job you pointed this out; I completely lost track of the days!

My shortlist (in an order generated by a netjacked military random-number generator powered by "four megabytes of hot RAM"):

Hex
Cul
Teresa
Aun Doorback
Victoria Silverwolf
DEO
Stormcrow

All great entries, but my vote goes to The Judge. Superb.

The poll is now closed**.

We have a tie, so a tie-breaker poll will appear soon.

** - Sadly, though I got here in time to close the poll, I didn't have enough time to vote.:(

Congratulations, mosaix and The Judge!!!

Both excellent entries (of course I would say that, since they were my two favorite stories).

I found it! But it wasn't showing a minute ago. Silly computer.

Congratulations to TJ and mosaix!

It was an easy vote this time, since I'd already struggled with those two on my shortlist and voted for mosaix the first time.

I don't know why that happened, TDZ: setting up the poll is part of creating a new thread.

(However, to get to the poll creation screen, one must submit the thread; perhaps the software puts the post up then, before the poll is even begun.)

Thanks again to everyone who voted for me and thanks to TDZ and PM for already voting in the tie break!

Off to get some sleep now.

Congrats to both of you! I voted for TJ the first time so this was easy. Well done!
