Discussion -- 300 Word Challenge #9

Interesting picture, with a lot of potential. Thanks to some sudden inspiration with the 75 word challenge this morning, hopefully I can use the time to brew some good ideas.:)

, a dragon** and a sea-monster, not to mention mountains and a compass rose and a dozen evocative names!

Good luck, everyone!

** someone's going to be happy, then... :p

A dragon you say?! How excellently wonderful! (does a little happy dance) Now...how to put a dragon trapped on an island surrounded by mini viking ships into 300 words.... ;)

Well, now, you just did it in 11, so it should be no problem! :D

And I can totally see your dragon and kittens tall tale. You're golden this month!

Kylara, looking forward to seeing those dragons in action!

Just posted my 75-er, now I can have a think about the 300. Have a few ideas kicking about, lets see what happens this month.

Excellent. Perfect for me to resurrect a couple of characters from a previous 75 entry (different story obviously).

Hmmm, very epic looking, which I don't do. I think I might have fun with a character I enjoy writing, shove them somewhere new. And then hope inspiration, of any kind, strikes.

Done but can't post ... grrr. I'm bound to tweak it now and end up with something different.

No -- there's no posting until the 10th. It's done that way to encourage everyone to polish the stories, instead of posting as soon as they're finished -- so get tweaking!.

I'd take anything at this point. I have never been so empty of ideas in my life. It's the epic fantasy-esque ness of the image, I think. I can't get past it. Might be sitting it out. :(

I have a very rough first draft. Needs expanding! (anyone want the extra words? ;) )

Depends on what they are. Do you have a "flame" or a "gnarled"?

After much brainstorming I have an idea, but it's diverged quite a bit from the image. I might wait and see what others post first.

But you know, as in past challenges, you can focus on any element in the picture, and write about that -- which could lend itself as much to SF as Fantasy.

Yes, it is, after all, a map. That could inspire anything!

"The map is not the territory."

To me, the map screams "Invasion!" and that opens up a world of possibility.

Your challenge entry can... er... encompass anything you want, Springs. ;):)

(Apart from words above the 300 limit. :()

I haven't got anything, either.

Well, I've come up with some swell titles, but so far no stories they could belong to.
