Sad thing is, there was a bit of historical accuracy to my story. Captain "Black" Bart Roberts really was taken out in the middle of the night while trying to escape after his ship took a broadside from the HMS Swallow, which in that era was considered a fourth-rate ship of the line. And his birth name was "John."


I don't think it was a frigate he was captaining, though...
