Discussion Thread - SEVENTY-FIVE WORD WRITING CHALLENGE April 2013 -- HAREBRAIN WINS

Re: Discussion Thread - SEVENTY-FIVE WORD WRITING CHALLENGE April 2013

DEO - poem dual ... lol ... I admit defeat
Cul - I also hate writing verse (except for haiku) but do like the occasional smiley

Re: Discussion Thread - SEVENTY-FIVE WORD WRITING CHALLENGE April 2013

Does the tall tale need to include a SF or F element?

Re: Discussion Thread - SEVENTY-FIVE WORD WRITING CHALLENGE April 2013

No, Tall Tales is a stand-alone genre, as I understand it. There are, by definition, fantastical elements in Tall Tales, but not necessarily fantasy.

DEO, DEO, DEO -- it's Tall Tales, not Dreams! "And the sex kittens took over the world." Ha! :D

Stop tittering at my sex kittens. :)

Re: Discussion Thread - SEVENTY-FIVE WORD WRITING CHALLENGE April 2013

Culhwch - I always enjoyed a tale where an old story teller dazzles the listeners (in this case kittens) with fascinating tales. Excellent!

Luiglin - A full-blown wacky comedy with non-stop gags, very cool. You had me smiling through-out your tale. Mee-wow!

Barlennan - Ailurophobia: the fear of cats! Is in it's extreme, in this freaky Outer Limits like tale of shocking kitty horror! Awesome!

Parson - Big bad Tom, big Tom. The late Jimmy Dean, the Sausage King would probably give you a high-five from beyond the grave for being inspired by his 1961 song, Big Bad John. Good stuff!

TacticalLoco - What a fantastic legend you've created about Chronus the Titan King, and his remarkable feline whose paw strike gave us our Moon. Nicely written!

AJB - A very cute story about kittens listening to a yarn-spinner, telling them about the strange two-legged creatures which are, the humans. I love it.

Johnnyjet - Wild and imaginative sci-fi tale about a hotel in a place called Farworld, which is protected by bio-engineered "mental kittens". Friendly, yet deadly. Very cool man.

David Evil Overlord - Whoa! You caught me off-guard with your incredible and tremendous "Dr Moreau" thriller, in reverse! Humans are changed into animals!

Ya know, when I first read the title, I thought uh-oh, get the kids outta here. But instead you coughed-up an amazing furry tale, which I wouldn't mind seeing it made into a movie.

Cheers SB. The interrupting sheep joke is the only one I remember that can be told in polite company.

Re: Discussion Thread - SEVENTY-FIVE WORD WRITING CHALLENGE April 2013

I even had a pair of demoniac kittens kicking around since July 2010 (don't ask how they haven't grown up into cats yet; they're demoniac) and, in true feline style, they didn't come up with the whisker of an idea (I wonder id my muse is feline, too. That would explain a lot. Vast overdoing of new concepts when she wants petting, sulk and bloody scratches down your arm when you feel like a bit of comfort.

Still, without much divine inspiration I have at least produced something; and not in verse.

(On the obverse decided to reverse the subversive trend).

The few, the proud, the untouchable, yeah!

Johnyjet:-C'mel bless, liked the whiff of Norstrillia stroon; hah had ideas along that line myself, but nothing was crystallising.

Re: Discussion Thread - SEVENTY-FIVE WORD WRITING CHALLENGE April 2013

Starbeast Thanks for the kind words. You are dead on in terms of inspiration, but I had an idea and I was writing it, before I started getting on the Sausage King channel. :D

Re: Discussion Thread - SEVENTY-FIVE WORD WRITING CHALLENGE April 2013

Thank you Starbeast for that excellent review.

Re: Discussion Thread - SEVENTY-FIVE WORD WRITING CHALLENGE April 2013

That's mine in for the month! Been tinkering with it on and off today (past tense, present tense, past tense, present tense, Klingon, present tense, past tense), so I need to get it in before I give myself a headache.

EDIT: Perhaps I should have read through the entries so far before writing mine - it looks like inspiration has decided to strike multiple people at once to improve her chances.

I had no ideas along that line, but I did wonder if anyone else would do a Mother Hitton's Littul Kittuns tribute story

And thanks for the great review, Stsrbeast. :)

Re: Discussion Thread - SEVENTY-FIVE WORD WRITING CHALLENGE April 2013

Some great entries this month; Culwhch, I particularly liked yours.

Thanks of course to SB and Victoria for their kind comments on my entry.

Cheers SB. The interrupting sheep joke is the only one I remember that can be told in polite company.

You're welcome Luiglin. I perfer clean jokes, and that's what I enjoyed about your story.

Starbeast Thanks for the kind words. You are dead on in terms of inspiration, but I had an idea and I was writing it, before I started getting on the Sausage King channel. :D

You're welcome Parson. I'll always remember the three things I like about Jimmy Dean, his song Big Bad John, his sausage company products and his small role in the 1971 movie Diamonds Are Forever.

Thank you Starbeast for that excellent review.

You are very welcome TacticalLoco.

And thanks for the great review, Stsrbeast. :)

You're welcome David Evil Overlord.

Thanks of course to SB and Victoria for their kind comments on my entry.

You're welcome Paranoid Marvin.

Chrispenycate - Oh man, you wrote quite an unexpected cat tale. I couldn't help but to laugh at the last two lines. I like cats, and you turned what is gruesome, into something funny.

Lenny - This is a story which shines like an episode from Night Gallery. Told sweetly by a child, about a witch who used her dark magic to produce a cat-tastrope! Marvelous.

Re: Discussion Thread - SEVENTY-FIVE WORD WRITING CHALLENGE April 2013

Thanks, Starbeast & chrispenyacate, for the nice comments. I hesitated initially about doing a tribute to Cordwainer Smith's classic story, knowing I could never give it justice in just 75 words. Eventually I gave in and my first version was over 300 words. Hopefully I didn't lose too much in the whittling down process.

Re: Discussion Thread - SEVENTY-FIVE WORD WRITING CHALLENGE April 2013

You're welcome Johnnyjet. I think Cordwainer Smith would high-five you for your tribute.

Re: Discussion Thread - SEVENTY-FIVE WORD WRITING CHALLENGE April 2013

I've had to wait, I've been on holiday with no internet - shock horror!

I have a well polished 75 word ready, the wee woman complained about the laptop being out even when I had no connection, heehee.... Some very good kitty posts, I'll go polish some more, be back soon. I just need to get my chrons fix now.

Re: Discussion Thread - SEVENTY-FIVE WORD WRITING CHALLENGE April 2013

Thanks for the comments, Starbeast!

I spent a good deal of time trying to think of a cat-based title - Mrs. Benson's Cat-tastrophic Pregnancy would have been a good one, but "cat-tastrophe" passed me by completely.

Re: Discussion Thread - SEVENTY-FIVE WORD WRITING CHALLENGE April 2013

I'm in and this one has had at least a nod of approval from the wee woman indoors, so I'm ahead before any voting - for me anyway.

I didn't think anyone wanted to use that term, so I helped myself. Keep up the good work Lenny.

Glen - That is one bad kitty cat that will drive you to drink. However, there is a strange power this little fur ball has over it's owner. Spooky cool!

J Riff - A story of three young cats out on the town, getting wild and rowdy at a Milk Pub, until the fuzz shows up. Cute and funny. Moloko Plus anyone?

Bowler1 - Nicely done! You drew me into an advertisement for a cute and deadly toy without me knowing it.
