HBO TV series sneaking in possible hints for the book series? !!! SPOILER ALERT!!!

Re: HBO TV series sneaking in possible hints for the book series? !!! SPOILER ALERT!!

I've been thinking a lot about the different gods/religions there are in ASOIAF and how "true" they are. Red priests and priestesses clearly have some power, whether trough R'Hllor or something else. The Old Gods may not be gods as such, but there are supernatural powers involved there as well. The Faith of the Seven has so far proved absolutely nothing, has it? People pray to the Mother and the Warrior and the Smith etc, but so far we've yet to see anything along the lines of resurrection, burning birds to a crisp or time travelling through trees.

Is there a discussion thread on this topic? I will have a search on the forum a bit later. Otherwise it's an interesting thing to discuss.

I know this is off topic, but Imp's post made me think of something. Is there anything (other than characters' personal beliefs) to suggest that gods in this universe are either good or bad? Or is it possible that they are more akin to the Greek/Roman gods who exhibited the more "human characteristic" of moral variability just with great power?

Well, Melisandre at least seems to think of her god in terms of "good and evil".

There have been discussion threads, I forget which ones (Imp would normally rattle that off, but he's busy running for some kind of elected office or something, maybe Boaz will step in to help).

The only 'supernatural' aspect so far shown for the Seven is the whispering to Davos when he was shipwrecked. I personally made the argument (and will make it again) that the Seven are far more powerful because of the way that they organize, motivate, and inspire populations. I think that's a far more powerful (if more subtle) force than fire and magic.

The fact that Coldhands has been cast in season 3 also seems to rule out Ben Stark as a potential candidate. Are we now forced to assume Coldhands is the Night's King?

Not necessarily. Many characters who appeared in season one are being played by different actors now.

BFS, the Mountain, Berric...

Re: HBO TV series sneaking in possible hints for the book series? !!! SPOILER ALERT!!

Gregor and Beric, yes. But I thought BFS was the same...

Oh... and mayhaps we'll find out that Dany really is a lackwit because the actress stands around with her mouth open in every scene.

Ian McElhinney has portrayed BFS in seasons 1 and 3 and furthermore, has played him in every episode that BFS has appeared in.

Thanks, Imp.

The show recently showed Varys telling Tyrion a tale of his origins and then opening a crate with an old man. I guess this makes Varys' story canon...

Re: HBO TV series sneaking in possible hints for the book series? !!! SPOILER ALERT!!

Unless Varys knew Tyrion was coming to see him, and staged the whole thing...

Re: HBO TV series sneaking in possible hints for the book series? !!! SPOILER ALERT!!

Unless that... yes. Wheels within wheels.

I should have been a TV writer just so I know how this story ends.

Re: HBO TV series sneaking in possible hints for the book series? !!! SPOILER ALERT!!

I'll beleive Varys is a eunuch when i see his genitalia-less naked body paraded through the streets of KL, a la Cersei, but this adds to the evidence we already had when Roz stuck her hand between his legs and came up "empty" :(

Varys could have been pulling an Einhorn. Dan Marino would know the difference.

Einhorn is Finkle...Finkle is Einhorn...Einhorn is a man!

Spoiler warning for anyone who hasn't seen Ep 7 Bear and the Maiden Fair GoT.

The video link The Imp posted regarding Talisa was awesome and seemed to tie up the Jeyne character change nicely, HOWEVER, what's up with the pregnancy??? If she really has been in on everything from the beginning/is the spy, what would be the point of allowing herself to get pregnant/or lying about being so? This is exactly the opposite from the book if I remember correctly, wasn't Jeyne given herbs to keep her from getting pregnant to keep the Lannister-controlled Sansa as heir to Winterfell?
Unless they're planning to write in a miscarriage and having THAT as the excuse to keep her away from TRW? If the baby remains intact, how can the writers let her live? Maybe she's not the spy afterall, genuinely loves Robb, will attend TRW and he will have to witness his wife and child dying as well? (y'know, 'cuz your dad beheaded, closest advisors and mother along with your amazing direwolf being brutally slain is just not enough torment) ;(

Re: HBO TV series sneaking in possible hints for the book series? !!! SPOILER ALERT!!

Okay, so what's up with Talisa being preggers? Is it just something she's telling Robb? If it's true, they'll have to kill her off at the RW to prevent random heirs popping up later on, which doesn't fit with the whole Talisa-being-a-spy thing. I'm thinking that whole thing was to get viewers to care more about Robb before they lop his head off, but it does make me wonder... At the moment it also seems as though both Talisa and the Blackfish are going to the Twins :/

Overall a pretty mediocre episode I thought. It felt like the scenes that featured stuff not in the books outnumbered those that are in them. Still, Charles Dance verbally slapping Joffrey up and down is always nice. Oh, and I suppose we can pretty much guarantee that Margaery's cherry has been thoroughly popped judging from that scene with Sansa.

EDIT: Hehe, guess I'm not the only one thinking along those lines with Talisa :)

Re: HBO TV series sneaking in possible hints for the book series? !!! SPOILER ALERT!!

lol. The Margaery/Sansa moment was a delight--the whole "oh, stupid girl, sure, I learned all of this from my 'mother'"
And Yes, what IS up w/ Blackfish still being with Robb? Maybe T gets sick and he escorts her back to...I don't know, Riverrun?, she loses the baby but they're at least away from the carnage?

I hav ealways believed it to be a given that shehas been deflowered more times than FTD on mother's day.

Talisa writing that note was a bit odd, and i think it might support the theory that she's been planted by the Lannisters/

How long can they possibly keep toruring Theon for before he runs out of body parts? it's a olong way to aDWD.

I thought the scene between Joffrey and Tywin was wonderful

Re: HBO TV series sneaking in possible hints for the book series? !!! SPOILER ALERT!!

Plenty of foreshadowing in the episode. I think Talisa is a naive participant in the Tywin's plot or maybe she has just falling in love with Robb. Her speech to Robb about running off to Volanthus could be her way of trying get Robb away from what is to come.

Re: HBO TV series sneaking in possible hints for the book series? !!! SPOILER ALERT!!

Talisa I think is a Lannister honeypot.. that video was really very compelling. The handwriting on the note from the bedroom was very different than the handwriting on the note Arya sees, but that could just be a continuity issue.
Couple of things about her being preggers, since we sway from the book...
1. Dont think she is really necessary after the rw, so I am thinking she and Blackfish dont attend, but that he kills her when he finds out what happens and figures out she tipped off the lions. So, I am thinking something like this might be a great way to go with the script:

T: Oh I really want to go with you darling but *morning sickness
BFT: Ok I will stay here and make sure she is safe
(rw happens)
BFT: How did they know and...you have what in your hot little spy womb? The next king of the north? I dont think so.... *swish* (thats a sword swing)

OR

Talisa goes back to KL after the RW...
T: Hey guys! I AM a good liar and I brought you a pres....*dies as Tywin kills her because well we just cant have another Stark mouth to feed and spys are the most expendable characters in every universe :)

Any way it plays out I dont think she will make it till the end of season 3. But she was a great short con.
