Starbeast, I'm blushing! You really liked it! :D

Yes I truely did. Keep up the good work Grinnel.

I'm not intentionally holding out; I've just drawn a complete blank on this theme. I know I will be beaten with sticks for saying this but I find the obscure/difficult themes and genres easier as a stimulus. This one is just so open I'm having no luck.

Horror, yes. Plenty of horror ideas on 'Discovery' but fantasy or sci-fi ...nope. Nope. Nope. Nope.

I'm still trying though.

I know that stories can sometimes be tough to think of. Don't force your thoughts, just relax and don't think about it, an idea will pop in yor mind when you least expect it.

Besides, horror isn't a bad thing, I've written a few on this site. And it mostly is fantasy.

Got my story up at last.. not perhaps what I had thought of originally and actually from an idea I have for a bigger piece. But I'm off on holiday tomorrow and wanted to submit while I still could.

been loving reading all the stories.

SleepyDormouse - Sweet fantasy tale of discovery, understanding and kindness. Plus learning your pleasent offering is from a larger story you are working on intrigues me. Sounds like a wonderful child adventure you have brewing up. Keep up the good work.

Hey, thanks for the encouragement Starbeast. My usual method is to do just what you have said. After a few weeks it has percolated in my mind and something is thrown up and I go from there. I have about five different rough ideas drawn up - all around the 100 word mark - but they aren't suitable for one reason or another. I hate to give up and was almost prepared to sit this month out.

Re horror - yeah I know what you mean, but to me horror is a specific genre so for me to go in that direction would be a cop out  and I do these challenges to, well, you know, challenge myself ;) :D

Anyway, it's done. Thanks for your support

Hell's bells. I've just read all the stories, listed my faves, figured out my favourite, prepared an hilarious post to communicate all of this, and find I'm a day ahead of myself. Tsk!

Eee, we're a bit low on numbers this month. I'm going to blame the weather - it's been too hot to think.

Anywho, that's mine in! Another one that interrupted my sleeping.

SleepyDormouse – A wonderful little tale that seems to be a little bit of a snapshot of a greater whole, and that just seems to give the story so much more depth. I particularly liked the fact that it did not tell you what had been found, but the description was enough to fill in the blanks, and the fact that we did not know what was being hidden from just made it feel so much bigger.

Phyrebrat – What on Earth can be said about this one? Mad perhaps? Fun, certainly? An almost anarchic cartoon that sees different characters colliding, just so the punchline can be delivered. Good, even without the secret mix of spices.

JordanSC5 – A story that captures just what something unusual and strange can mean to the people of the universe. A radio wave transmission that carries signs of intelligent life can to lead to all kinds of wonder, that there is life out there, intelligent that needs to be contacted con mobilise many in order to meet that life. Of course the whole 'we are not alone' moment that it brings might be turned on it's head when not only do they meet life from the origin, but the others coming the other way!

NovaZero – A thought provoking idea. Does life that has lived close to forever grow tired of that life and wish to end it, or does it seek new experiences no matter what the cost. The answer is not really given here and it does not need to be, all that matters is that the life form seems happy to risk all for that thrill, whichever way it goes.

Cul – The curse of artificially induced immortality. In some ways more horrific than a horror story, the thought that you must live forever, watching all that you know and love wither and die; made worse by the fact that you did it... and cannot do it again...

That combined with the 300 worder in the same month...

My two-week vacation made me lazy this month, but I still got it in. I hope it measures up to the bar that's been set this month by the other stories.

And thank you very much for the comment, Victoria. I didn't expect to see mention of it so quickly! Much appreciated!

I gave the stories a run-through, and just wanted to say that all of the contributors have done an amazing job this month. I think this one may come down to another coin-flip or pick-a-number-game for me, but I'm getting ahead of myself so I'll digress for now...

Lenny – How much of this is the truth I wonder? I can just see him sitting there pondering this month's entry and coming up blank, until he came up with little gem, a story about writing a tory with a little twist. Highly entertaining.

RJ84 – The discovery here is probably one of the greatest lessons that can be learned, and one that explains just why someone can become known as the greatest of High Lords. In order to become the best you have to make yourself the best. Excellent advice and one that needs to be followed.

TDZ – And there I was about to be saved, but alas it seems I am stuck with my normal level of stoopidity. A good fun and entertaining story, that has an understated conclusion but also a level of something close to the truth that is close to profound. I mean the money must keep coming in eh?

(part seven)

Phyrebrat - Grab plenty of napkins, and chow down on this spicy comedy that's mighty tasty. The Black Colonel enjoys Ketty's Favorite Centaur, in this flavorable and crispy offering. It's a story that's mmm, mmm good!

JordanSC5 - It would be so wonderful if other races, from other worlds would voyage here. Perhaps one day that may actually happen. An awesome sci-fi tale of discovery, as well as hope for humanity.

NovaZero - A celestial being wishes to test his powerful and impervious body and discover what would happen if he physically entered a star. Quite a unique story that meshes sci-fi and fantasy.

Culhwch - Astonishing science fiction tale about a discovery cure for death. However, his victory is hollow, when he realizes that he can not replicate the formula for anyone else. Excellent drama!

Lenny - Marvelous, and very delightful story that resonates with realism, plus, it hooks the reader into a humorous fantasy fishing tale. I chuckled at this swimmingly cool entry. Well done sir.

RoninJedi84 - Sometimes the answer is easier than piecing together the question. And this is highly illustrated in this magnificant sci-fi fantasy. Well written and accented intensely at the end with three strong words.

TheDustyZebra - Education is highly important, and may take years to attain, but imagine if you could improve your mind with a CURE for stupidity. A superb story that made me think, and laugh. A+

Mosaix - A freaky frightfilled bio-horror tale of contamination. Excellent sci-fi drama that gets under the skin, and festers with imagination until it pops at the end like huge boils of icky goodness. Good stuff!

Not long to go now, with the "Usual Suspects" still to post.

I've had a read through of the posts, and I've no idea who to vote for. There is a wide range of ideas, covering all sorts of topics, how do you compare?
