What are you working on right now?

Yes that's one of my options though I would need to import all the Word docs into it and then I'm faced with having an out of date Word archive or else making the changes in both versions. Can you produce files for upload to Kindle Direct Publishing - from what I've seen they frown on PDFs, and prefer HTML (maybe they mean mobi as I'm aware that standard is based on HTML, not sure what file type I need.)

Sorry, know I'm changing subject here, my initial need is to get it in one file ONTO a Kindle for further editing work.

I won't derail this thread too much. I dont know much about it. I start a new file. Create different 'chapters' copy paste my material in there. This gives you the separate links to each chapter in the book index. Seems quite easy once you get the hang of it.

OK thanks, yes don't want to derail it either!

Well, I'm working on my book, which still remains nameless! ( I do need to think about giving it some sort of a title one day) I have a couple chapters left...probably three before it's done. Only now I've started to think about a sequel...

Yay @Juliana I am excited for us to get to the next step :)

I use the Kindle Textbook Creator:

Currently deciding whether to extend my edited novel to incorporate the 50,000 words I have left in to one epic work, or stick with the plan and write up the sequel. I'm also working on a sci-fi short story and flash fiction set in the same universe, which may yet get assimilated in to the sequel.

I am working on my first bit. This is a difficult decision, because a ton of authors say that the first million words that you write is crap, and I get so attached to my ideas, I do not want any of them to be my 'crap'.

Then, I woke up one day and realized that I had been dreaming of writing for 9 years now, and written exactly nothing. Well, not nothing. I have one 50K piece that I wrote for NaNoWriMo just to say that I could do it, and that was crap. But, then again, I never went back to fix what was broken.

Long reply, short answer, I am working on my Wuxia Western, and praying that I finish, and if nothing else, I learn from my mistakes, which I feel will total into MANY!

So you already have 50,000 of your million written..... Anyhow, to give you hope my first book, the first one I wrote, came out last year and is doing okay. Having said that, it took a lot of rewrites and a lot of stuff was either ditched, updated or replaced. So don't feel it's a case of you must get it right first time or lose the idea.

I'm working on the long, slow edit of book 3 before I send it to my editor. I hoped to finish this week but it is a biggy and I think it will be next week. (I'm on page 212 of 327 and only got 16 pages done this afternoon, which for me is rubbish.)

I'm enjoying it with the bitter-sweetness of knowing it's the last Abendau book (unless it becomes a storming hit and sells to Spielberg...) for a long, long time, possibly forever. It's my first world and I love writing in it. On the positive note, I really like where the characters are, and hope those who read it do, too.

Zen Dragon, to write 50,000 words in a month is a great achievement in its own right. I don't think there are many people who could Write that in a month and not expect to have to do a lot of editing and polishing.

Maybe having a structured deadline like NaNoWriMo helps your productivity? I found joining a writing class and agreeing to read out my work a great incentive to carry on writing. Getting feedback was invaluable, helping me to work out what to ditch/build on. Perhaps this is an option for you, if you have not already tried it?

I do not frown on the accomplishment of writing the NaNo novel, though I know that I just made things up and ended with a Dues Ex Machina. It was just a time thing, and I believe that is correct about me that I need a time pressure to create. I am trying Chris Fox's app for his 5K per hour. I am not trying to make it to 5K, but I am using it in sprints to see what I can create. I have just made the decision that I need to write, and as much as I am attached to what I am going to work on, it will become a trunk novel, and that is now okay with me, because the journey of 1,000 miles begins with the first step, right?
Thank you for your words of encouragement, and here is to trying to have a finish novel in the next 2 months to edit. What is the other saying, "You can't edit a blank page"?

That's very true, Zen Dragon, you can't edit a blank page. And the more you write the better you'll become. For most people it takes several drafts to produce a book, and 50,000 words is a great start. Just keep going and don't lose heart.

Like Jo, I'm editing my book before sending to my editor. Exciting times.

The part of editing where I am triple checking the consistancy.

How can I miss the number of people in a room changing from one chapter to the next for quite so long?
Well that event was caused by X in chapter two but by chapter for was caused by Y.
Oh I forgot in an early draft Bob used to be a chubby goth rather that a scrawny rocker.

That sort of thing.
