What are you working on right now?

I finished my first draft of my Aliens submission for Tickety Boo Press. Now comes the hard part...making it awesome. I will be reading it over and tweaking tonight then off to a few beta's for a read.

If anything Gary is getting a lot of people to write. :)

I'm not sure if I will work on a story of the Magic, Metal and Steam or move on to the one of the other Veil ones. So many options.

Yay! Well done you. I'm hoping to get to a little story for Kraxon that's taking shape in my mind.

Barrett, I'd finish the draft first - it's amazing how many words you can lose in an edit sometimes.

Having another crack at a short story. For some reason this one's being a tricky one to get right. I think significant redrafting will be needed.

I'm mentally writing and re-writing the last two stories for Kraxon before I actually type them up.

That is how I have been writing my last few stories. I sat there talking out-loud to myself at my desk and planned the whole thing out. I came up with, beginning, middle conflicts and ending. I don't go so far as to plan every scene but they grow a lot easier if I know what I'm doing and where I'm going.

That being said, I am working at editing Alien story and writing Magic, Metal and Steam.

I even made a chalkboard and hung it above my desk with "Things to Write" written on it and I erased ALIEN and added MAGIC METAL & STEAM

It gives me a good visual and a goal

I just play out scenes as if I'm watching a film. Probably got at least one minute of definite footage. Heh.

I learned a lot from my brother who is an animation director. (and currently working on his second screenplay, the first being made into a film as we speak) He always creates 'storyboards' to do the scenes and plan perspective and shots. It is much the same when writing 'scenes' in books I find.

Ooh. Well done to your bro!

Makes sense.

Just about to start the final story for Kraxon, but I've just had the proofreader comments arrive in my inbox for my short story for Torquere - weirdly made me more nervous than the editor's comments, but there's pretty much nothing to change except my dodgy tense. Then I had an email from XeiBooks the other day about the remaining six stories I have to do for them. And then... I'm not sure what I'll work on!

Now those are good problems to have

Busy with my rewrite of Aurean Legacy. Trying to work out how to implement (or maybe depict is a better word) a stronger relationship between William and his Nanna (or Nanny, he calls her Nanna) without dragging the story on for too long before the first plot turn.

As always i've got my kitten watching me work...

Finally got a vague idea of Ch5 for Sir Edric. Later today I hope to give it a proper crack. (Been sleeping terribly, though, which has rather reduced my productivity).

I'm feeling upbeat about my writing today. Last night I started a new novel, writing longhand, and it's already thrown up some surprises. I can't wait to get out of work and continue with it tonight.

My friend, who is also a writer and keeps me motivated in all areas of my life (she shouts "JEANS, FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THINGS HOLY!" at me when I am on the treadmill and flagging!), wants us to co-write a YA novel, each taking a character and alternating chapters. Despite how much other writing I have going on I think I am going to say yes. :)

Spent a good half-hour with my critique group brainstorming a big action sequence; all fired up now and ready to write it out. Also, having another look at my queries after having been told off (by my group) for not sending them out to enough agents...

I am working on the Long Game Cycle. It's a series of planned 6 books that begin with characters at childhood-to adulthood with a varying amount of interlude flashbacks. It deals with two immortal characters trying to one up each other in a mixture of ways.

Currently annoyed at the current book because it's been derailed by thinking through character motivation/practicality/and that the main plot point happens in dribs and drabs. I know it only lasts for two books, but it should have more page time. So I am reworking it and rewriting.
