Lot’s of great stories this month. My favourites were:

  • springs - liked the rhyme
  • Victoria Silverwolf - liked the contrast of style and ancient character. Had to punch the names into the information superhighway to learn who they were.
  • Alchemist - Had to punch the dance moves into the information superhighway to learn what it meant. I think the protagonist will certainly win this contest.
  • Bowler1 - it makes perfect sense: riverdance as zombie plague.
  • Hex - again, liked the contrast of style and form.
  • TitaniumTi - liked the imagery (and thanks for the mention)
  • Starbeast - LOL
  • chrispenycate - poetry!
  • Parson - scurrilous place naming!
  • mosaix - tricksy god
  • Glisterspeck - beautiful prose
  • SleepyDormouse - a number one story (deserves a vote)

I worry in general when a man of the cloth thinks like I do. You have a Carrie reworking in 75 words (impressive. It took S King a whole book) and kill off/disappear all the teens (no harm, the spotty freaks). I appreciate an understanding of the darker forces in life would be a good thing in your field... but still!:D

I suspect I'm labouring under some stereotyping here... but still!

:D Well I think you are probably right. I hate horror as a genre. I suppose that's because I have deep conviction that some of it is actually true. I'm also a Calvinist and we Calvinists believe in total depravity.

  • Parson - scurrilous place naming!

Glen -- Thanks for the mention. You were not the one I expected to hear from about the place name. :D:D Actually I've been to the village of Edgerton several times during my life.

But you haven't been there to raise a :)rolleyes:) congregation, have you?

.

They already have more than an ordinary number including a substantial one of my own denominational stripe.

Martin 321 --- Thanks for the short listing. Much appreciated.

Grumble, Grumble, I now have to double post since my editing time expired. And I failed to copy the changes and now have to re-type.:mad:

-----

This was very hard. So many of the stories relieved on myths I never even guessed existed. And without knowing the myth, there wasn't much of a story. I'm sure I missed some great stories because of my inability to discern what was going on in the story.

Short list:

Victoria Silverwolf:
For listing more Goddesses than anyone else. "Ladies Night"

Remedy: For a poem that winks at what's between the lines. "The Horny Satry"

Mosaix: for an unexpected climax. "The Old Ones Are the Best"

Contenders:

Teresa Edgerton:
For a lovely and precious swan story. "Act Two: The Lake by Moonlight"

Crystal Haven: For a sweet secret in the story. "Stepping Out"

SleepyDormouse: For a dance we've all danced. "The Dancing Nymph"

My vote went for the dance we've all danced "The Dancing Nymph" by SleepyDormouse.

List so far (Its a crazy week and I'd hate to not even do mentions should I mislay the time to vote)

AMB
Hex
HairBrain
*Titanium Ti
Remedy
*Parson
Perpetual Man
**Mosaix
Crystal Haven
*Boneman

Now I have to reread all those and find out what my notations from yesterday meant.

Um... does mythic fiction always have to be based on an actual real myth? My understanding was that it can be tropes rather than the specific myths (though I may well be wrong).

I wanted to put an alternative viewpoint since a couple of people have said they couldn't identify the myths being used.

I have an endlessly long long list and a shortlist of four. I haven't managed to decide who to vote for -- keep changing my mind.

Thank you very much for the mentions :)

Nope, you're right. Although it's just as possible to be unfamiliar with a particular trope as with a particular myth. Possibly more so.

Thank you Glen and thank you very much martin321 (vote dance time, and yes, it's an Irish dance this month) for the vote.

Thanks for the mentions/shortlists Springs, Bowler, Titanium, Tywin, Mosaix and Martin321. And super thanks for the votes Glen, Parson and David Evil Overlord.

It's made my day, finding that many shortlists and votes. :)

I'm yet to whittle my short list down to find who I want to vote for... decisions decisions.

Thanks for the *, Hopewrites! Whatever it means it's very welcome...

Very close call for me this trime between AMB, Remedy and Mosaix, finalists all, but after a lot of deliberation I chose Remedy. Laugh out loud, those images made me.

Hopewrites -- thanks for the mention and the * --- I'm hoping it means something like strong contender.;)

Worthy Mentions

Victoria Silverwolf: A clever, tongue in cheek story with wise use of mythic characters.

chrispenycate: Smart, insightful. I loved the play of history vs Hindu mythos.

martin321: Extraordinarily good use of suspense and story telling.

fitzchivalry: Good solid poetry. well done couplets and a laugh out loud funny ending.

Favorites
Hex: Even if I saw the twist coming, I still enjoyed the ride. First class writing as always.

telford: And speaking of which, how could I not see this punch line coming? Made me laugh out loud!

Alex, the G and T: I loved the way you stuctured the story around the hourseman's names. Plus the ending is very satisfying.

But my Vote goes to...
Mosaix: A very cool little story which kept me reading and wanting more. I was too caught up in it to figure out the ending. Well done!

Also my thanks to Mirannan for the stealth vote.
That little surprise just made my day!
