Discussion Thread -- 300 Word Challenge #13

My -you-probably-shouldn't-even-read-it-just-because-I-only-did-it-to-keep-my-perfect-string-of-entering-in-the-300-intact entry has now been posted.

String intact. Woo-woo.

Well, that took a lot of work, for fairly mediocre results. But I couldn't not post, could I?

Double-posting, me. It's an hour and a quarter to go, right, not a quarter of an hour?

Well, it was 6:00 my time on the 75, but I wanted to make sure there hadn't been a sneaky time change for you guys.

Ah! I was thinking British Summer Time, not Greenwich Mean Time...

Wouldn't be the first time that I mixed up my GM with BS!

Grrr you guys will be the death of me!

Ursa hasn't posted yet, so it can't be time. :D

It wouldn't have gone so long, but I had tons to do today for end-of-month at work.

okays .. posted..
it was either going to be what i posted or or a little concantination i called
"Madame Babbage's House of Bondage (and Other Torments)"
:D

And you're going to torment us with that title and no story? :D

I give up -- I don't feel like trying to rewrite what I wrote last night, for anything better, so it's going up the way it was.

Ursa, you must have been sweating it, waiting to post after me! :D

It's England (the real one) and 10 minutes until May starts (GMT)**, so there's not much likelihood of any sweating here.

Well not while posting on the Chrons, anyway....

** - And until the Challenge closes to new entries.

Missed it by mere minutes. <Sigh>

Oh well, going to post my would be entry here just for fun. (hope that's OK)

Chrons still rules!!!!!

Owija

Once there was a boy named Owija. He loved being in the forest more than anything. Each day, as soon as his chores were done, Owija would disappear into the wood.

Owija loved his family, but his real kindred were the trees and animals. He was loyal to his tribe, but he always felt most at home deep in the darkest groves.

He would spend all his time climbing the tallest trees and running over the roots on the jungle floor. He climbed higher than any monkey and ran surer than any cat.

As Owija grew the gods took notice of him and became jealous. So one day, just as the boy reached the top of a great tree, they sent a mighty wind to blow him back to the ground and teach him a lesson.

The wind whipped the tall tree this way and that. The young man hung onto the trunk for his very life. Faster and faster did the gods drive the wind. Tighter and tighter Owija griped his beloved tree.

Finally, rather than be blown off the tree to his death, the boy squeezed so hard he melted into the wood itself. Owija's body and spirit became one with the tree world and not even the gods could separate them.

Now Owija is the life force of the forest. His blood is the silver sap. His eyes watch over each plant. His loins give it strength.

Owija's power helps the forest and the village, bringing fruit trees to life near the people and culling the weakest trees to create bridges, ready fire wood and work vines.

Because of the boy who loved trees, there is a peace and understanding between the people and the forest. And there is a place for everyone and everything to live.

Wow, really powerful, beautiful story, Storyteller...very impressive! I love your avatar, too! :) Well done all arolund!

Thank you CC, that is high praise! And as for the avatar, I have a thing for stick people, so I thought it would be fitting. ;)

And while I'm here, my votes for the challenge went as follows: TDZ for Passing the Torch--I really liked the idea for this and found the story interesting and enjoyable!--The Judge--Very well written, loved the concept and especially loved the ending-- and Victoria Silverwolf--I liked the idea of the 'redemption man' and what he does; I felt you built a fairly strong tone/concept with few words.

Perpetual Man, you got an extremely close 4th place for mine, in fact it was tied with one of the ones I voted for. I thought it was a beautiful interpretation of the image!

So many others did amazing with this, I couldn't even list them all. What a talented bunch! As Cat's Cradle said earlier (I that that is who said it...) it is fascinating how many very different interpretations can come out of one picture!

Good luck to all in the contest, and good job on all the great stories.:)
