Discussion Thread -- 300 Word Challenge #13

The Storyteller -- A great deal of intense emotion is found in this powerful account of the difficulty in letting go of the past.

martin321 -- The author manages the difficult task of creating truly alien characters with whom the reader can empathize.

Fitzchiv - "Jackdaw Beasts" An incredibe tale told to us by an unnerved narrator, whose curiosity discovers an odd note amongst greenish-white skeletal remains (nice touch). But when the ground trembles, he flees the scene, and comes to the realazation that dark forces were at work. Good spooky stuff.

The Storyteller - "The Burning Totem" Firstly, nice to meet you. And second, you've conjured a fiery, twisted metal of an entry, about an individual who uses magic to end their suffering of loneliness. Truely a plague filled pleasure to read, that burns images into the readers mind.

Martin321 - "Some Assembly Required" An astonishing tale of science fiction that is reminiscent of the glorious early years of pulp magazine stories. I was thrilled to read this outer world treat of alien creamy goodness. I enjoyed how this displayed that people are the same, no matter where you go.

Phyrebrat - "The Job" There are some mighty strange goings-on in a three story Dutch Colonial. The babysitter panics when she encounters an eerie supernatural situation that grips her with icy fear. I wish this was a much longer tale, because I wanted more. Creepy cool.

Thank you Victoria Silverwolf and Starbeast for the very complimentary comments! I enjoyed all the wordplay in your review Starbeast, and it is very nice to meet you as well!

Also, DustyZebra thank you for the reply; I sent my comment before I refreshed the page, so I only found it now. Good advice, and I appreciate you taking the time to reply!

Lots of awesome stories for this challenge! I'll try to read them all and come back here to post my thoughts... hopefully!

You're very welcome The Storyteller. I agree, lots of excellent tales already, I hope we get more. Only a few days left.

Everyone who posted would love to hear your thoughts, feedback is always welcomed with open arms. :)

Wow, really powerful, beautiful story, Storyteller...very impressive! I love your avatar, too! :) Well done all arolund!

It's wonderful how varied the entrants are! I've just read the new stories, well done all! Proof here that the imagination is limitless...we see the same photo, and inspiration leads us all in such different directions, very cool stuff! :) CC

JoanDrake - "The Denver Totem" Military officers in Colorado, discuss an unusual totem pole that appears to be a blend of many different cultures. This discovery makes them both very uneasy. I enjoyed this, because there are many strange objects that have been found around the world, that seem to be out-of-place. Well done.

Telford - "Heavy Metal" At first, I did a double-take at the title, because I've seen the 1981 movie of the same name, about a hundred times. But, when I read your eerie story, I found myself highly envolved with it as I knew it was leading up to something. And, you did have a freaky surprise awaiting at it's finish. I like the conversation too.

Mosaix - "Root And Branch" You wrote a very smooth and spooky drama, that leaves dark foot prints in the back of my mind about something unsettling, something supernatural. Old Joe, has seen a haunting face, and with a little pruning, he can now get a better view. Disturbingly cool.

Thank you for the review earlier in the thread StarBeast! :)

Not so many entries this month? - Is it the quietest 300?

thanks for the review starbeast. much appreciated

and Bowler, i'm glad you took my advice - nice dark story that one

Yes, starbeast, many thanks for the review. You and Victoria are very diligent and thoughtful when it comes to providing feedback for everyone else, I really should take a leaf out of your respective comics!

See... it is Mr Orange, he made me.

Last day and we seem to be a bit low on new posts. I want entertaining - NOW. Give me stories.

I've tried... though I've struggled with both challenges, this month - too much metal around, I fear...

Now for the best bit - reading them all!! How many votes have we got, again?;)

Too much metal? You ran out of steam? Couldn't find the magic?

I think we get 3 + 5 votes this month
