DISCUSSION -- June 2014 75 Word Writing Challenge

Well, I'm in. The muse struck me during a storm that hit my area. I'm due for more bad weather where I am, so you'll have to pardon me if I'm not here as often.

I'm looking forward to read the stories submitted so far.

Let's see what everyone else came up with. I'm super curious.

Starbeast -- The author captures the sardonic tone of a European Western in this violent and ironic tale.

The Spurring Platty -- By literally "reading between the lines," the reader is given a clear view of the mallable nature of truth.

I don't mind admitting that this, for me has been the most disconcerting challenge I have been involved in.

I did not even find Chris' Kipling challenge as daunting as this. Simply no idea at all.

(Well that's not true, any idea I did get would need a few more words (say 10-20,000 more) that the 75.

I even considered letting the challenge drop for a month, but I figured that might start me on a slippery slope, and it would break my run of consistent entries...

So came up with something that can just about be shoehorned into place. :)

At least I entered. :D

It is a bit daunting, isn't it? But sometimes it's necessary to phone something in, just to keep the string alive. :D

I think I had an idea this morning, if I can just figure out where in history it belongs.

Thank you Victoria for your wild west review. You're doing a fantastic job of reviewing everyone.

Glad you could join us Perpetual Man. I too must admit, I had the roughest time trying to think up something. And I too, almost opted to skip this challenge. But I got in with a few days to spare.

I completely understand Dusty Zebra. Every idea I had, had a bit of sci-fi mixed into it. I kept throwing ideas over my shoulder, and hearing them smash like glass onto the ground.

I hope you can join us. And that also goes for so many regulars that haven't posted yet.

But for those who have submitted, excellent tales! :)

I wrote one, versified it, filed it to length and was just about to post when I noticed that all, not most, of the deception had disappeared in the editing process. Ruddy Alexander the Great was just too straightforward.

I'm hoping for inspiration; I still might manage something.

Why is nobody in the photo competition? Is it something I said?

Oh, I'll always be there with something. Gotta respect the streak. :D

Actually, I started the streak with a totally non-genre story, which I realized just after I posted it. Not surprising that it wavers now and then. But darn it, I still keep thinking "alternative history".

Another good reason for me not to post early! My memory is so bad that I would do the same thing. :D

Yipes. I am glad to hear that no challenge will stop you. I try to do that too, but, man-alive, this one almost stumped me.

The trouble with posting early is I keep forgetting I have written something. I keep going to post a new one lol.

Oh my. As for me, if I post too quickly, I sometimes come up with another idea, that I would have wanted to use instead of what I have already posted.

It was really funny, because the day before the Challenge was posted, I had been to the library and there was a local author pushing his books. He asked if I liked historical fiction, and I said it's not something I go out of my way for. :D

To be fair, his was Western, local history, which doesn't do anything for me -- I do actually like Roman historical fiction, and a few other things.

I'm pretty much the same, TDZ, but I didn't dare touch European history, simply because I don't know enough about it. I barely knew enough of the American Civil War to feel comfortable with my entry. Guess that's what happens when one hasn't been in school for ten years...

 That's an excuse? I haven't been in College for over 40 years. Seminary is 36 years in the rear view. But I do like History so that is probably a plus. I'd wager that at the end of this challenge I will have written about the most obscure history in the whole challenge.

It's an excuse for me. My interests in history tend to go further back, more along the lines of mythology and medieval Europe, even extending into the golden age of piracy, but, beyond that, not much.

Now I just realized I could have gone along with piracy. *Facepalm* Perhaps Calico Jack or Kidd.
