DISCUSSION -- June 2014 75 Word Writing Challenge

SB, if I can do this one, so can you. As I said at the start of the month, I have no experience with historical fiction, but I managed, even when the desire to enter this time wasn't really there.

I submitted my story two days before you posted this. However, I was surprised that you did manage a tale by the 6th. As for me, it took until the 18th.

I'm glad we both joined the pool party. Pardon me.

(runs) "Cannonball!" (SPLASH) :D

Are you just trying to keep me out of it, SB? I hate being splashed! :D

I thought I had an idea a couple of days ago, but it's not panning out. Then I had another inspiration but a bit of studying convinced me that one wasn't going to work, either. I've spent most of the evening looking up various things that wander into my mind, and my brain is fried.

Good stories people! Had a great time reading them. :)

A little off-topic, but why aren't the other writing challenges running? Why only the seventy-five word challenge?

There are basically only the two, the seventy-five (monthly) and the three hundred, which is quarterly. I suppose the Sekrit Santa, which is irregular, when someone feels the urge to launch one (and I've not finished my part in the previous one, yet, despite it being long closed).

You could always take some photos of music, movement or dance - the photo challenge is very thin this month. (General-technology)

I do like historical fiction. Bowler1, I really love your entry.

Thank you so much PM. It wasn't an easy month for me and with the low count of posts I'm not alone. I was very tempted to go with one of the great characters in history, but in the end, I felt the ordinary had more impact. Which is my way of giving a little push on the last day to get the entry count up. Failing that, I'll fall back on my old RAY GUNS. ;)

I've not had much time to read the posts to date, but I'm looking forward to tomorrow and seeing what people have come up with.

Time to start work now, but I'm a lot happier with my Monday morning thanks to PM.

Thanks, Victoria, for the nice review.

Historical fiction was a tough challenge for me as well (hence my vague entry). I don't usually write in this genre, though some of my writings require some historical knowledge. History, however, is certainly full of fascinating stories.

I have to agree with your blatant attempt at dragging people, kicking and screaming. :D

I've been tearing my hair out, trying to find a "gotcha" moment in the well-known bits of history, and when something finally came along, it was just an ordinary moment.

TheDustyZebra -- The realistic style of this story makes it clear how important a seemingly small decision can be.

Hex -- This beautifully written, delicate poem touches the reader's heart.

Ursa major -- Sly wit fills this clever variation on a classic theme.

Culhwch -- An imaginative portrayal of the distant past enlivens this powerful tale.

Jinxo -- A hard-hitting account of trust and betrayal is offered in this gripping story.

We're at forty stories with only a few hours to go, and most of our usual last minute contributors have already posted their stories.

If we don't reach the magic number (at least) this month, who knows what might happen?

We might change the magic number to 40? --- Next month 60? --- My prognostication skills are a bit haphazard.

Thank you, Victoria.

If the magic fails? Does that mean gravity reverses and we all float off into space?! eeep! Come on, people! You can't let that happen!

Well, there is still The Judge, who is generally late and has historic connections… and as normally reliables: David Evil Overlord, jastius, Khayos, martin321 and stormcrow

And there are still several hours to go.

What was it about this month's that made it so difficult? It didn't seem that hard on first reading, but I almost didn't post, not getting any inspiration. All right, this isn't unique, but pretty unusual.

Oh, yes, thank you very much Victoria. Always good to be noticed, even if one is not over proud of one's submission.

Well, TJ is in, so I think that is the last of the skin-of-their-teeth crew (and they didn't even wait until the very last minute), so let's hope some of the other reliables come along before the end.

I'm not posting this month. I tried to write something, even had a few ideas, but historical fiction isn't really my thing, and none of the ideas excited me enough to want to make the effort of turning them into a story. :(
