Discussion -- August 2014 75-Word Writing Challenge

I know I can do that, but I like to quickly look, glance and then move on, don't really fancy having to pay attention and click buttons and then properly read through everything ;) lazy bum me :)

Thank you Ashleyne for the mention, I have returned to form. Yay, 51 this month, good stuff. There was lots to like and it's really good to see new members join in.

Mentions to Valis13, Mosaix, Boneman, River33 and Ursa.
In the mix for a vote were Alchemist, SilLearning and Parson (well done lad).
Final vote to a very twisted Perp.

I'm not a big fan of the new voting graphics as all I see is a black and white screen and I can't drill down to see who has cast votes. Give me back my brightly coloured graphics of old - grrrr....

On a random parting note, don't ever buy a three leg BBQ, your heading for an unstable disaster and another trip to the shops for a new gas BBQ (super cheap when purchased at the back end of a very wet August).

I can see them and I know where to click to see the list, but it's nowhere near as clear as the old poll which was a nice graph and you have to click each individual's to see their votes, whereas before one click showed them all. :)

Bowler 1 --- Thanks for the short listing and the "well done lad." ---- [I suspect I'm older than you be a few.:p]

Slightly OT I know, but I've just been looking through the 75 word roll of honour and discover that TJ's October 2013 entry has been screwed up by the new forum software.

Perhaps a mod would do the necessary?

I haven't checked the whole of the ROH so there may be some others as well.

'ere,

Is there any chance the poll can be referenced easily from this thread. For some reason even though there are people 'posting' to it, it doesn't show in the recent threads list on my 'show all watched threads'.

Plus, how do we get to the first 'none read post'. ~I click on the last post time to get to the last post and then get an option at the bottom of the screen to got to the first unread post - guess what it puts you on the last post cos that's where you were - on the last read post.

There used to be a nice little triangle under the thread title that took you there.

Also what happened to the rest of the members list? We can see all you 'HIGH UPS' up there, but there's no option I can see, to show us plebs.

Sorry for the mostly of topic post :( - and no embarrassed smiley to boot - not that I would.

There's a link in this thread's post#215. The last post in the Challenge Entries thread also contains the link.

(In fact, the links are in just the same places as in any other month.)

Yup, of all the Roll of Honor stories, the two that had the silly font tags added were, of course, one of mine and one of TJ's. :D I have to go and fix mine, too. There are also a number of stories that have been shrunk to microscopic size, which will be sorted out eventually as well.

TEIN, the poll is linked in post #215 on page 11 of this thread, but I'm not sure that's easier than going to the home page and navigating from there. :)

ETA: Ursa beat me to it.

Ursa + above: (sorry missed your name and unlike the old system I can't see previous posts from here - not a complaint an observation - I quite like the new clean look myself.)

Ah sorry Dusty, it seems were having a crossed post day

Yes I know there's the old poll is open link, but wading through to find the page it's on can be painful. If when someone voted the poll appeared in the new post list it would be handy.

At the moment (because I'm old and decrepit and don't remember numbers easily) I have to go to writing challenges and hope it's near the top. But that can be 4 or five clicks away if you down in the slurp.

If you have unread posts in a thread, clicking the thread title will take you to the first unread (if it doesn't, it will take you to the first post and from there you can click the "First unread" button). If you go to the last post, the software will assume you've read everything else.

Also what happened to the rest of the members list? We can see all you 'HIGH UPS' up there, but there's no option I can see, to show us plebs.

Registered Members

Hover over the arrow next to "Members" and it's in the drop-down, or click "Members" then chose "Registered Members" on the beige bar when the page loads.

Ah but I at least am still bugging out Lenny and that takes me to the last post. There is a little blue blob next to the title which takes you to first unread I think.

:)

Okay, my favourites, shortlist* and vote

Springs
Victoria Silverwolf
Remedy*
Alchemist*
Johnnyjet
Perpetual Man*
Harebrain
TDZ

In the end it was a battle between Victoria and Remedy. It was hard to decide because they both had that element of surprise at the end, but I think Victoria's just pipped Remedy's for its leftfield-ness.

I may have missed the point on some (okay, quite a few) stories as I'm not particularly science-minded, so I look forward to reading the post-poll discussions.

Oh yeah, forgot about that problem. :p Trust the blue blob, TEiN, trust the blue blob!

Also, thank you for the mention, mosaix! :)

Woo, I wasn't expecting this! Thanks to everyone who has shortlisted me and big thanks to the three beautiful people (Mo, Lennis, Holland) who voted for mine.

I had one I'd those months where one story just leapt out and I have no idea what actually makes me like, 'cept that I really do. So DEO gets my vote.

Saved by Springs, yet again. Anyway I preferred the old version. New is not always better.

Parson, the "lad" can be a generic Irish term, like "mate" in the UK. It was a good thought provoking story, hard to achieve in 75 words, so well done again... lad.

Evening gang! The Secret Santa story is keeping me hopping, so here, quickly, my list & vote:

Shortlisting for the fine stories of:
springs
Victoria
farntfar
Alchemist
StilLearning
Parson

Finalists:
Telford--truly moving, Telford, well done!
TDZ--so clever, Dusty, and so much fun! It would have gotten my vote if not for...
Ashleyne--a chilling story, ABW! This is the one I will most remember from this Challenge, well done!

And may I say, I am shocked that my brilliant line "TIMMY WON'T DIE A VIRGIN!!!" hasn't won me any votes this month!! :) Congrats to all the vote earners, and best of luck to the front runners...looks like it'll come right down to the wire!

Finally, thanks so very much to Telford, Kerry and Ashley for the mentions...Timmy receives some validation in the end, at least! :)
