The one that didn't make it, especially for
@alchemist
My ipad broke and I have just got it back, so I missed the 300 (which I was very excited about and therefore deeply disappointed).
Here is the entry that never was:
“Who are you?” the little girl asked.
“I am the mighty Cù Chullain,” the warrior replied.
“Where are you going?”
“I ride to defend Ulster, by defeating the champions Queen Medb sends against me,” he said, voice tinged with exhaustion.
“Am I beautiful?” The child asked, her face wistful.
Cù Chullain smiled, his eyes crinkling at the corners as he beheld the girl.
“Yes, mo chuisle,” he said. “You are beautiful.”
“Then take me to wife,” she said, her pretty chin raised, eyes flashing fire.
Cù Chullain laughed. “You are but a child,” he said. “Ask me again in ten years and perhaps my answer will be different.”
In front of his eyes, the child began to grow into the most beautiful woman Cù Chullain had ever seen, her auburn hair breaking loose from its braids and swirling around her head.
“Who are you?” He asked, voice hushed.
She smiled, perfect lips curving. Cù Chullain swallowed. His heart raced and the leather reins slipped in his hands as the horse tossed its head and danced, startled at the transformation.
“I am the daughter of a king,” she said, her voice musical and charming to his ear. “Do I please you now, Cù Chullain?”
“You do please me,” he said, “but there is only one woman in Ireland I wish to take for my wife, and she waits for me.”
At his words, clouds rolled in to cover the sun and it seemed to Cù Chullain the branches reached out to pull him from his horse. The wind howled, lifting the leaves and pine needles and hurling them at his face. Lightning flashed in a summer sky and suddenly he knew who the seductress was.
“Morrígan,” he said. “Do your worst.”
