SS the 5th

To expand then, oh Rodent Queen:

I'd like the main character to face an emotional issue which causes conflict in them, and to face it in an unconventional manner. You know, like someone in pain deciding serial killing is the only way to relieve the pain. Or ballet dancing to overcome a club foot that they've been bullied for...

Gotcha. Ta!

I would like to join in this too, always wondered what it was about! Does the author keep ownership of the piece? As in, if it is good, they can then submit to pubs?

I would like a story about a sentient spacefaring vessel, crew are optional but must have a ships cat ( or similar creature) on board :) sci-fi or steampunk would be great ta.

Oh, look, everybody's already giving their subjects; I suppose I'll have to think of something, too.

In a collection of ideas that never got taken anywhere, a title for a screenplay:-
  1. Mythic Park 1 - a visit to the zoo.
Along with some rather odd notes and the theme song in English and French. Which would only be limiting to someone else trying to generate something.

Genre? It would be a bit challenging converting it into steampunk, but fantasy, SF, Thriller or urban should work.

I would like to volunteer for this, Captain Mainwaring! Uh... Phyre.

I would like a story set aboard a generation starship, floating slowly through deep space.

I think it would have to be SF, though I have a broad definition of that. (i.e. if you want your generation ship powered by steam or by the magic of song, I will not object)

Okay gang, how about this for a rough set of deadlines?

1) Throwing your name into the fray - up till 14th Nov
2) Send out assignments - by 20th Nov (can do quicker but this will give me a few days spare in case of any last minute changes/additions/ probs)
3) Writing from 20th Nov to 5th Jan 2015
4) Submit from 6th to 13th Jan 2015
5) Guess authors thereafter on...?

I figured if we leave the deadline till 14th Nov, it will give more time to publicise this thread and get more entrants, but perhaps more importantly, as Chris has suggested, will help those focussed on NaNoWriMo who want to participate, too.

What do you think?

(I don't know if I'll be writing in this one as I have an old one to finish and am already scurrrrred by some of the requests! Don't you guys know by now that I'm a one-trick-pony?)

Sounds just right, PB! Very excited to start! Thanks so much for running things this time, CC

Timeline sounds good Phyre. Leaves lots of time so I don't feel rushed.

Springs, you can write mine too if you want...I'mm PM you the request later...just kidding....maybe

I'm in! I'd like a near-future sic-fi Christmas story that is happy without being twee or loaded with ironic sarcasm.

Go on then, I enjoyed SS3 and missed SS4. Entering every other SS ssoundss ssweet!

I'd like a story about a sci-fi circus: space clowns, bizarre alien animals and hot trapeze artists ;)

By observation, it doesn't run quite as smoothly as this suggests. Each of the SS's I've so far submitted to I've written two stories for, to allow for tardy entries. This is likely to happen this time, as I'm already writing, and in all probability will not be allotted the story I've started. Accept submissions from the instant the subjects are assigned, so you can get ahead with generating excerpts, and then you know who to ask to fill in for the um - latecomers.

What? No, of course nobody's going to fail to be ready on time this time, we've all got the experience from previous tries haven't we, and know how to pace ourselves?

peeks in..

puts away notes on generational ship powered by sonic synthesiser, forest of mythical alien creatures, zoo- circus (sounds suspiciously like a two for one, almost..) , intergalactic gallavanting detectiving, challenged emotionally distrought sublimator, sentiant ship with pet cat and christmas future past.

shuffles into corner, watching.

I'd like to join in if I may.

I would like a story about a time traveller who goes insane.

As per @chrispenycate 's observations, I was going to start sending the assignments out earlier and close off the entry. I'm also going to be a bit cheeky and pop a reminder thread into the 300 Word voting thread as I think that will get a big audience.

Hello, Pb! I liked the post you popped into the 300 worder thread! I hope it brings more people here.

Also..you mentioned possibly sending out assignments a bit earlier than the 20th..I am fairly desperate to have something to write..is it horrible to ask if the story assignments might go out soon? I would be very happy to have something to start working on. Thank you! CC

if its soon and i promise to be good and write one up right away teacher, may i join in have a story too? non scary ghost with delusions of marshmellows..
