SS the 5th

I will be sending the assignments out over the next few days by PM and giving my email address so you can send them back to me.

Depending on odd/evens I won't be entering this one as I have two unfinished and couldn't live with the shame (let alone demands) of a third. :)

Me, me, me...

I'm tempted to ask for jastius' spaceship-full-of-cats story, but I'll go for...

The Quantum Mechanics Union goes on strike, and all sorts of different realities are interacting in ways they really shouldn't...Space Marines marching into Mordor, tricksy hobbitses steal the Millennium Falcon, that sort of thing...

I went and did that thing that the interweb security folk say never to do - clicked on a link embedded in text...and found my way here from the 300 word thread.
I'd like to join in if it's not too late, please. Some of the remits are a bit scary but, just 'cos it says 'May only be used in Comfort Zone' on my travelcard, doesn't mean I shouldn't try and jump the barrier every so often. You never know, I may just get away with it ;)

For my story, could it include parallel universe(s), poison, paranoia and one other thing, beginning with 'p', of your own choosing. Urban/Dark Fantasy, or Steampunk (if anyone's that way inclined).

Welcome David Evil Overlord, and Darkchrome! The more the merrier.

Darkchrome, if you get a stimulus that's too obscure - as this is a workshop as opposed to a challenge - you can be a bit more flexible with it. Some people have received/written stories in the past with none or very little relevance to the request. Of course, I'd not encourage this approach, as you say, the comfort zone thing is good training, but we have to be enthusiastic and motivated about what we're writing or it's no fun, so use your own judgement.

Thanks Phyrebrat. I was hoping it was along those lines of 'write around the theme', so things may be used as a key element or just triggers for something else. That said, as long as I don't get anything to be done in the style of Dickens, I'll do my best to be as relevant as possible :)

Just to let you all know I'm waiting on a couple of details and we're good to go.

This time there are 15 of us which may be a record! (y) Assignments'll be out tomorrow by PM with my email address (for new entrants, that means you'll be given your story request and the name of the person who has asked for it). When you email your story to me, please can you put your chrons name somewhere, too, so I can tie up who is who and who gets what.

Thanks

Springs, you can write mine if you want. I hope I can make time to write something decent!

Thanks Phyre for doing this...15 of us hey...that will make it so much easier to guess :cautious:

Notwithstanding Springs' Handwavium Manifestron, I wanted to remind you all that we've not settled on a deadline, but I suggested after the Christmas break. Of course you can send in as soon as you've finished if it's before that time.

How do you feel about this?

Normally I would be worried about any sort of deadline, but I had 30 minutes alone before dinner, and inspiration struck...I have the whole thing plotted out now; there will be a fair bit of research, and then it's a matter of coming up with about 2-3k words, and I'm done! (Hmm..the 2-3k words might be more time consuming than I'm anticipating, come to think of it!:)) But I will go with any due-date chosen, no problems. I'm very excited to be a part of this, thanks pH and thanks to all of my SS5 writing partners!:) CC

ps--hope inspiration strikes, springs, for your topic. I'm very luck and thankful to have a topic I love.

I can't wait to read about my alien zombies! (I forgot what I asked for so I just looked back..past me had a good idea there )

Well, this will be an interesting project :)

Wow, story structure..I have so many ideas written down, and an outline for the thing..a bit of research (more to follow)..but the writing, and then putting it all together, those will be taxing . This is such great practice though, and hopefully I'll know more about writing by the time I come out the other side of this story. SS is a great project, another reason to love the Chronicles! :)

goes about collecting little bits and bobbitys.. gonna grow a story the old fashioned way
