SS the 5th

I'm really struggling with this, I have the basic idea of the story but I am having a great deal of trouble getting the time to sit and write at the moment. I will try and get it done, but I can not promise I will meet the deadline I'm afraid :sick:

Just to mention, btw, these don't need to be long stories - I don't think any of mine have topped 1000 words. It's a style exercise, first and foremost.
 
Well I won't say that I'm close to being done...but I have started!
 
I'm thinking I may not be done...I will at least send my intro so the list can go up!
 
I sit here, smug and secure in the knowledge that mine is in, but also uncomfortably aware that after that statement I had better not walk down any dark alleys for the foreseeable future. :)

I'm just really, really excited about being a part of this, my first SS. *bounces up and down in computer chair*
 
tap-tap-tap-tap-tap. Progress is made. Though I'm not done yet.
 
I have the beginning.... And the ending..
And various parts of the middle being spackled into rigidity as we speak...

(Note to self; stop introducing interesting characters.. They use more words to write up then the boring ones..)

Goes to consult Dr. Frankenstein about borrowing his apparatus for shocking life into the story.
 
I want to say something clever about the most important character in my story, but I can't do it without revealing I wrote that story. So it will have to wait until after all the guessing is done...
 
Hoping to piece together the two files and weld them together seemlessly into an awesome piece of work that will entertain and delight. ( ok, that's the press release)

The reality is I'd be happy to get a story out that doesn't appall and depress. Maybe one with a beginning, middle and end too if I can manage it.
 
Oh boy, I am in serious trouble. :( It's not that I haven't started, it's that I most likely won't finish on time. The problem is that I haven't written short stories, and I have, literally, no idea of how to write a 1k story. I came up with a bunch of ideas, then started writing, and now it appears this story will be 10k or more. It's exciting writing something so long, and trying to keep all the details in my head so the thing holds together (continuity, 'voice', etc), but it's a bit much for me to handle.

I feel badly for my recipient, but I'll do as I did for the last SS, and send the first half of my story in by the deadline; I'll send the rest by the end of the month. Some future SS will almost certainly see me finishing my story on time, and in a reasonable number of words. :)

oh, er... sorry, that just sort of came out :whistle: I don't think you're a witch, really...

I had the same problem with quite a few of my SS's, too*, so I would not worry toooooo much. Your solution is a good one. It is exactly because of this that I have put my long works on hold and focused on being able to craft shorts under 10k. I feel your pain.

SS3 Headstones of Bossington - 6.3k (turned into a novel so stopped working on it...apologies to Hope)
SS4 The Folding - 10.2k and still about 5-7k to write...
