This month was easier for me than last month, though the quality of writing still remained equally as high, but my vote goes to one that stood out from the very first reading. There were a few runners up that we're battling for the vote, but still missed out.
These runners up were
Void - I will never look at an envelope and stamp the same way again. I will literally think about this every time I see one, and it was a brilliant look at something so mundane. Makes me wonder what else will have a great story if they could just talk and think
Micheal Coorlim - it's very difficult to make me laugh in earnest, but this story and situation was brilliant. I can picture everything. It reminds me of a scene from a Men In Black spoof I saw years ago, I think called the obvious Men In White. They were playing with the de-neuraliser, had it set to a second or two, and pointed at themselves. "Hey, what does this button do?" FLASH. "Hey, what does this button do?" FLASH.
As with Void's story, I have thought about this one a lot over the last couple of weeks, and always smiled, so thank you.
Ratsy's gets my last special mention simply for the harrowing image of day turned to dusk because if all the bodies (assuming I read it correctly...). It is a very powerful scene that was formed erfectly in my head when reading it.
Finally, my vote goes to 'Bang' by Alc. This story I thought was brilliant! The loneliness of the cosmonaut at the edge of the universe, mixed in with the touch of awe-inspired megalomania made for a great character. And more than all of that is just the premise behind it, made this, for me at least, a spectacular piece of writing, that will stay with me for a very long time. And I mean, the first solo person to reach the very edge of the universe kinda deserves to be the God of the next one, right?
