Star Trek: Discovery - new series in 2017

Rarely does a new series start with star power.

I don't think this show has a much a chance now.

What we're getting is prequel series and from my standpoint I don't want another prequel series . Enterprise is was quite enough. This one takes place 10 years before Kirk and company? I don't care about before Kirk. Do something different .Why not do a series after the Next Generation? Would that make more sense then this ?

I'm going to watch it! And probably enjoy it! :D

I'm of the same mind. Why not go further into the future? It feels like they're treading water now.

Keep in mind that only a fraction of the likely audience for the new series will be Trekkies. Ask the average person about the Star Trek timeline and most will have no clue what you're talking about. And none of the series launched with established actors.

The series will live or die by its characters and story. The most difficult job for the creators will probably be keeping it a family-friendly show in an era when most drama has content not at all suitable to children.

That's very interesting. I love her, but I'm guessing that means she's going to die on Walking Dead? She might not want to let that happen in case this blows.

If she's accepting a contract, her demise on WD was probably already a given.

Yeah I remember when Steven Yeun said that he was stuck in his apartment all day everyday and couldn't talk to anybody when they were doing that cliffhanger season finale on if Glenn was really dead or not, and I know Michael Cudlitz said that he could only start looking for work now.

So while it seems pretty top notched-sealed deal over there at TWD, this seems to be counter to what the main cast has to go through in order to keep secrets from slipping out. That or nothing is going to happen to her and she is able to do this now, while Walking Dead on TV and they aren't filming.

I will watch it but not with much enthusiasm.

Which means you won't enjoy it unless it is the most fantastic thing ever done.

With any new series, one needs to go into it with an open mind. The first season of TNG was not well-acted. When everyone started fitting into their parts, it became a great series! :)

I do admit that expectations are unreasonable high.:)

Really? Mine weren't that high, especially after reading posts in this thread, however the cast of unknown but capable actors, and the fact it is actually still going ahead, means that there must be some hope. If it fails then I expect that will be the final death of Star Trek on TV. I would agree with those of you asking why it couldn't be set in the far future, however, there seems to be quite a lot of Klingons in the cast, and, apart from a couple of episodes and a film, we never really saw the inside of a Klingon ship.

But that's an opinion of the era that should be used. I don't understand why the era used would make it a good or bad series. It'll be the writing and acting that'll determine that.

Because we know how everything will turn out with regard to the Trek Timeline. What we have his filler tv series.

Oddly, we had a successful 70's show in the 90s, as well as other successful retro show. I wish you'd consider giving this one a chance.

But with your current attitude, I see no way you'll like it.

:(

Im going to give it a chance . But your right, I don't like the concept of the series because it is not the kind of Trek series I want.
