March 100 Word Anonymous Challenge - Discussion Thread

Fine stories, all around. I have my lists though:

semi-finalists:
Alchemy, Useless Stuff, -The Gilded Warrior-, All that glitters
Finalists:
True value:, The Prospector, Melting Point, Crown of The Heavens

I read through the stories twice, and both times the same one stood out for me, and so my vote goes to:
The Prospector
I really think this is a terrific story, and is really well written, congrats anonymous writers...anonymous writers really. It was a fine challenge.
I have a few guesses as to authors, and I'll look forward to that round of the challenge. Best of luck, all, in the voting, CC

edit: and of course, a big thank you to farntfar, who stepped up to the plate, and knocked out a home run of stewardship for this challenge!

Allow me to echo @Cat's Cradle's praise for @farntfar's excellent promotion of this month's challenge. His enthusiasm was so infectious I couldn't help but enter.

Votewise, it came down to four for me:

The Last Quest Of Sir Anselm The Younger, Knight.

Blind Greed
All That Glitters
Be Careful In The Dragon's Lair, Lest You End Up 'Medium Rare'

After some deliberation, I voted for the The Last Quest.

Another excellent Anonymous Challenge! Well done, everyone, and thanks for excellent supervision, @farntfar.

My personal favorites were Alchemy, The Darkest Magick, Insight, All That Glitters and Auld Gold. And of these, my standout favorite is All That Glitters.

Still working on my guesses though... Hmm...

Got my vote in, working on guesses. :)

I can't remember, do we usually wait to guess till after the vote closes? Or just go when we think we're close?

I know I'm off because I scribbled in names of likely authors as I was deciding my vote, and had two down as likely written by @David Evil Overlord and he's not even on the list! Lol

I very much enjoyed all the stories however I managed to shortlist it down to

Auld Gold
Alchemy
Blind Greed
The Last Quest Of Sir Anslem The Younger, Knight.
Beneath The Mines of Darmiir

My Vote goes to...

Beneath The Mines of Darmiir.

A silly question maybe but as a first timer at the guessing game how do we guess at authors without giving ourselves away through omission or declaration of our own stories?

Alternatively Ajid, read all the stories in all the previous challenges, and then you'll know as much as anyone else.

You've got 2 days, for heaven's sake.

I think you must have left someone off that list, there are only as many names as stories...

I'm placing three entries:

3. All that Glitters
2. Melting Point

1. True Value

My favourites:
Alchemy
The Last Quest Of Sir Anselm The Younger, Knight
Melting Point
Be Careful In The Dragon's Lair, Lest You End Up 'Medium Rare'

And my vote: True Value

Ajid,

I'm sorry, I didn't really answer the right question.
It's why we have 1 more name than stories. Someone has allowed me to use their name as a dummy. So you could theoretically get 24 story authors right, and your own story assigned to the mystery gunner.

As no-one has ever got even close to them all right, the mystery gunner was a bit of overkill really, but it does mean I don't have to put my own name against "Buffy the Vampire Slayer". (Ooh! Ooh! Gave myself away there.)

Some golden stories in there this month - I had a little read of them all and decided to vote for Alchemy. Well done everyone, but especially Farntfar, who has moderated this month like some sort of giant Goldenballs mega villain. I'll post some guesses later today or tomorrow if I have time :)

some sort of giant Goldenballs mega villain

Well I can only hope that this is meant as some sort of compliment.
I'm not sure I understand how, but I shall take it as such. (He said, twiddling his moustache. (Almost certainly not the right thing to do in the circumstances))

So thank you DG.

No guesses at this point but my top three are

Dark Arts
R & R
and vote is All That Glitters

Great job to everyone on the theme and genre I picked! I'm glad it sparked so many entries and great ones at that!
