Discussion thread -- July 2016 75-word Writing Challenge

I'm in! LOVE your theme, mosaix! The possibilities, wow! :)

Now to read the other stories (as always, there's the fear that someone else may have hit on the same concept...or title. I like my title this time!:)). So far my stories have been weird enough that I probably can stop worrying. Best of luck with your stories, future entrants! CC

ps - no worries, Cory S.! I bet you'll see your review soon. The reviewers cover the stories sequentially by entry time, and it takes a big chunk of time to read this many tales, and then write up the reviews. That said, I'm very excited to see mine, too! :)

Thanks for all the reviews guys, nice to see so many people read every story.

As I understand it, Parson, the rocks are thrown to the fish -like volley or bochi ball I can't decide which- and the clothes are used in a complicated betting system. Two socks = shorts, but 1.5 shorts are needed for a top, and two tops for a hat. Which should make 6 socks for a hat, but ball caps only require 3 clean and 2 matching socks, while fedoras require no less than 4 matched and clean socks... I still haven't figured out what they've been betting on, but the fish have the power to arbitrate and call the bets.

I'm in and done.

With a lumbering flip I belly flop into the pool, splashing everyone and half drowning myself, I splutter and cough my way to the surface. Woohoo - lets pppaaaarrrrttttyyyy....

Mr Orange -- An echo can create a clever play on words, as shown in this lighthearted romp.

Allen Teasdale -- This frighteningly plausible vision of the future demonstrates how an echo can be punishing.

Starbeast -- Echoes can lead to madcap chaos, as we see in this spoof of popular culture.

Cats' Cradle -- This account of speculative technology reveals how an echo can lead to a surprise.

Phyrebrat -- Sometimes echoes are all we know of the past, as this powerful and exotic tale.

Bowler1 -- Echoes may reveal hints of the future, as the reader finds out in this suspenseful story.

I can't help but be amused at the title "Heavy Lies the Crown" next to your smiley face.

Welcome to Chrions Cory and yes, I can see how that imperial connection would come to mind when you first see my wonderful yellow face, a face born to rule. There is still a top slot in the Labour Party that I could go for, but I'm a little busy this week, so I'll pass.

Rescuing Han and Luke at Echo Base, @Starbeast – This story of snowbound high jinks takes a classic movie scene and twists it into something marvellously absurd. ‘Porkins’! Snnrk!

Thank you Shyrka for your review. I sifted through the murky sediment in my mind, and "Echo Base" rose to the surface, and I thought, "that's a nice floater. I can mold that into something...I think?"

Starbeast -- Echoes can lead to madcap chaos, as we see in this spoof of popular culture.

Thank you Lady Silverwolf for your review. Heh heh. You know me and how I love to mess with pop culture icons. If this was a 300 challenge, this story would have gotten even weirder.

The Error in the Echo, @Cat’s Cradle – Two expectant parents from very different worlds receive some surprising news. Man and Machine in perfect harmony?

Stone Whisperer, @Phyrebrat – This evocative story explores the gifts of a stone-seer (a lithopath, perhaps?) who can lift the memories of the past from the rock itself. But are some memories best left buried?

Heavy lies the Crown, @Bowler1 – Suspense comes as standard in this tale of a prisoner who can only sit and wait, praying for liberation, as the tumult of the battle to free them fills the air.

Delay in Transmission, @chrispenycate – This clever poem speaks of the vagaries of interstellar communication, seamlessly weaving complex scientific concepts and pop-culture references into a pleasingly intricate rhyme.

StilLearning -- An echo can be most unexpected, as this clever and surprising tale shows the reader.

HazelRah -- This thoughtful philosophical meditation reminds us that an echo can hold more than it seems.
