Discussion thread -- July 2016 75-word Writing Challenge

Thanks for the shortlist, Cascade. Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. :)

I cannot help but notice that Chrispy seems to have a few votes this month, in fact at this point he is in front.

Don't these people know? Are they too new to Chrons to remember... it was nigh on a full apocalypse when Chris last won. The fear and trepidation of what he hit us with! It took the challenge to a whole new level.

Anyhoo, I'm voting for Chris. (And I do remember)

Many excellent and unique entries on the theme! Great theme, by the way. And so I finally narrowed it down to:

My Long List, Short List and **** Favorite ****

Silencing - Ashleyne. B. Watts
Echolocation - Victoria Silverwolf

The Cave – Azzagorn
Lineage of Evil – Cathbad
Building a myth-es – hopewrites
The Sound of Your Own Voice - Old_Man_Steve2016
Old Man Hopkins - Cory Swanson
Stone Whisperer – Phyrebrat
**** Delay in Transmission – chrispenycate ****

As It Flashes Before My Eyes – HazelRah
Think Before You Speak … - mosaix
Master and Servant – HareBrain
Nostalgia – nixie
The Last Echo of Humanity – Ajid
The Birth of 'Lectric Lady – Parson
Sins of the Fathers - The Judge

Well done all!

Parson looks around. The Four Riders of the Apocalypse must be nearing. Chrispy has a strong lead. Parson prepares for something like Tudor Punk in the style of Thomas Hobbes. ---- Shudder ----:p;)

@johnnyjet Thanks for the short listing.

So my short list contained:- Mad Alice, mosaix, Victoria and Wruter, and as I voted for ThomasG… Aaargh! Has nobody been told why not to vote for Chrispy? Oh, obviously, many thanks to Cathbad, hopewrites, Perpetual Man, johnnyjet and Wruter but several of you have been around long enough to know… oh, and thanks to Coast, Droflet, nixie, and Parson, for appreciation without out and out insanity. Now we need to find lots of voters who can be convinced to vote for the same person - someone else.

@chrispenycate , Wow, so happy with getting a vote! Thanks! I loved your poem by the way, really really clever, and if I had made a shortlist, it would be the runner up - I mean that :). Ursa got my vote because his was more my style. I am new here, in fact new to really putting ideas into writing, despite my age; and I must say I that I am enjoying this forum immensely.

I knew full well what I was letting myself (and quite possibly everyone else) in for when I cast my vote.

Which should say something about my vote eh?

*beaming smile* you're welcome!

Hi there,

I have been busy trying to find a home for a flash fiction story I wrote a while ago. Please don't ask how old it is. Anyway, I have been concentrating on that and neglected this. I do apologize for not being able to get to the rest of the summaries.

I will read all the stories, as much as I can, tomorrow. I will get my vote in.

I hope everybody's summer is working well for them. It's been pretty hot over here. I think even the local roach community is taking out their umbrellas.

It came down between two that made me chuckle - and how I need a chuckle at the moment.

Wruter - Eh? What you say?
Moonbat - Smugin' hell!

Hard choice but vote went to wax lyrical Wruter.

Brilliant stories this month people, very impressed.
My shortlist, shorter list and vote

ashlynne b watts – silencing
victoria silverwolf – echolocation
wruter – a tinny ear
coast – travellers
old man steve 2016 – the sound of your own voice

johnnyjet – life in echoville
cory swanson – old man hopkins
chrispy – delay in transmission
stil learning – no one stays to chat
nixie – nostalgia
ajid – the last echo of humanity

Parson – lectric lady

Thanks for the mentions and to Luiglin for the runner uppage. I feel only a late conspiracy could stop Chrispy winning, but I expect he'll surprise us all with a really normal and easy genre/theme for next month sci-fi/space ;)

TY @Luiglin, that's a big compliment from a pun-master such as yourself. And I hope you find a reason to chuckle again soon.

Here's my new favourite joke: two chickens meet in a farmyard. One chicken says to the other, hey you're looking really fit. The other chicken says, yeah I've been working on my pecks.

Soooo here is my shortlist for this month:

Cathbad
JohnnyJet
Starbeast
Ihe
Vaz

Semi finalists:
Starbeast
Cathbad
JohnnyJet

Finalist:
Starbeast
Cathbad

WINNER!! Starbeast - The Starwars spoof made me chuckle. A bright point in a bleak week.

I don't what this to kick off a run of really bad puns please, we know the yolks get a bit tired in the end, seeming to be a bit cheep and I will not allow it. I'll be back to chick on things later.
