United Agents open house submissions

Weirdly, I have no idea if I'm in this one or not... I did submit, and then owing to circumstances that altered, I wanted to withdraw. Sent an email saying 'Let me out!' and got an automated reply, saying '"you can only submit on a Monday, idiot.' So I have no idea if they pulled mine or not. I'll let you know...

Hm... someone is determined to make my life interesting... almost, but not quite, put the something about the joker in the pile into the list... ahem... OK I gotta warped sense of humour... Welcome half-on-board, Boneman.

Lynn M Love - we're all in this together - everyone starts from a beginning, and you're no exception. We all remember what it was like when it was our first time... me, I was a bewildered mouse...;)

The list now stands at...

Prizzley - rejected 29/09/2016
DGJones - rejected 08/09/2016
Enshanta - rejected 08/09/2016
Anthorn - rejected 29/09/2016
aThenian
BDFiala - rejected 18/08/2016
Kerrybuchanan
S Blake-Smy
Lynn M Love
Boneman (unsure of whether he's in or out)

Good luck, everyone, whether it is with getting placed with United Agents or getting your novel published elsewhere.

Thanks Serendipity. Even a tough wait is good experience I guess! Thanks for the encouragement and be sure I'll keep on keeping on :)

Yep, learning to tough out submissions and what not is all part of the fun. Hang in there. :D
Painful, isn't it? I was in the Hodderscape open submission last year and made it through to January seconds reads before my R. It's nerve shredding, every time you open your emails and the longer you're in the more you can fool yourself you're getting somewhere, where as of course it's just they have a huge pile of subs to read through and you happen to be at the bottom.
Ah, why do we do it to ourselves?
Thanks for the encouragement all :)

Why do we do it to ourselves? Because we believe in our writing, that it will amount to something, that others will appreciate; because we believe it is worthy of publication and would dearly like the confirmation from the gatekeepers, those who will champion our work when they agree; mostly because we know we're going to continue writing whether we make it or not - it's in our psyche, our blood, our brains. And because everyone has to go through it if they wish to be published.* And because every rejection means you're one nearer acceptance. And because if we're rejected with feedback, it means we can continue writing, improving. And because we want to be a writer - an author - a creative being who wields words and ideas into unique stories that say something that's never been said before. That's what we want to be - and being published is the best chance for that to happen.*

(Self-publishers excepted, obviously...)

All true, Boneman. I fit writing in where and when I can - lunch breaks, on the bus to work as well as my allotted writing time in the week. It's not a hobby, it's just me, it's what I do as much as walking and talking. I'm always watching people, always wondering what the story is in any situation. And you've hit the nail on the head for me - publication is about affirmation from professionals, someone who knows what they're talking about saying 'yes, this is good enough for us to back you'.
Maybe one day. In the mean time, the wait continues.

Sorry to hear, Lynn, you received the dreaded R. Hugs of sympathy :(. Loads of imaginary chocolate winging its way to you... but keep on applying - you never know when you're going to receive a yes!

Me too. It arrived yesterday, but I didn't get time to check my emails until this morning.

Fingers crossed for @Boneman.

Huge commiserations to all for your dreaded Rs. As you say, @aThenian, they must have had a big batch to reply to this week. Many thanks for the kind words, encouragement and imaginary confectionery @Serendipity, @Boneman , @Gonk the Insane @aThenian - may we all go on to bigger, better, sexier things in the future.
Back scribbling today, cos you just can't keep a writer (aka deluded dreamer?) down.
Good luck @Boneman - hope you're in and hope you get a big fat YES :)
