Discussion Thread -- FEBRUARY 2017 -- 75 Word Writing Challenge

Hi guys, it's been a little while (nearly a year) but real life seems to have calmed down a bit now so my creative juices can flow again. . . (Eugh! Sounds messy!)

Anyway, I have a little story for the challenge and can't remember the rule about contractions - do they count as one or two words. In the rules it says about compound words but I couldn't find anything about contractions.

Contractions count as one word. At least if you mean things like can't, haven't, etc. Now if you are making one up you should check with one of the Mods.

Droflet -- Let Sleeping Dogs Lie, and O Tempora! O Mores!

EPT Henry -- This, Too, Shall Pass Away, and Youth is Wasted on the Young.

Dave Barsby -- What Goes Around Comes Around, and Turnabout is Fair Play.

Baucis and Philemon: The Continuing Story, @johnnyjet – Taking inspiration from ancient mythology, this heart-warming tale teaches us that our kindness can have an effect on the world long after we ourselves have departed it.

The Warmth of Experience, @Sapheron – The thousand-year-long story of a noble Oak and his life, teaching us that no matter how high we climb, how hard we strive, it can be the simplest things that give us comfort.

Jeemey and Anzo, @AstroZon – This story of a tiny mouse launched into space by uncaring human hands shows that size is relative and what may be considered insignificant by us need not be so elsewhere.

The RAT FINK GIANTS, @Starbeast – Beautifully bizarre, this story of the rise (literally) of a rodent rock band imbued with magical power teaches us that fibre is important. Where there’s muck there’s brass, as they say where I come from.

@Droflet .... helps us to understand that battles may end but wars are fought until absolute victory.

@EPT Henry ..... helps us to understand that the wisdom of aged is not to be overestimated.

What goes around comes around, or Like father like son, @farntfar – A hapless student’s experiments get out of hand when they gain sentience and proclaim their creator divine in this amusing tale of a reluctant deity forced to take responsibility for their creation.

AWAKENINGS, @Droflet – The stirring of dangerous, ancient creatures pales into insignificance compared to the hubris of humanity in this subtle warning tale. Dragonfire may not be the only source of global warming…

The Unsolicited Musings Of A Grumpy Old Man, @EPT Henry – Revenge is sweet for this bitter old man (does that make it bitter sweet?) Though frankly, there are far worse kids’ shows he could be forced to watch…

Two Heads Aren’t Better Than One, @Dave Barsby – A disturbing and cyclic tale of body horror and eldritch curses that sends a chill down the spine(s).

The Quest, @Alex Darion – A life-long pursuit - littered with sacrifices - in search of a mythical drug leads to an unfortunate misunderstanding over the meaning of ‘great’. Always read the label, folks.

Johnny Sunbeam, @Hugh – This tale of a fae creature that dances on light shows that light will always banish darkness, no matter how dire things become.

@Alex Darion .... helps us to understand that if you don't listen to your spouse you will soon be too big for your britches.

@Hugh
.... helps us understand that that there is good designed into the fabric of the universe.

The RAT FINK GIANTS, @Starbeast – Beautifully bizarre, this story of the rise (literally) of a rodent rock band imbued with magical power teaches us that fibre is important. Where there’s muck there’s brass, as they say where I come from.
