DISCUSSION -- MAY 2017 75-word Writing Challenge

Seems I was the first to vote. :)

Honorable mentions (it was very close):
Terminus Est - Shyrka
"I can't, I won't" - Ashleyne
When All Is Done - Joshua Jones
Peace In Our Time - nixie
Isaiah 34:13 - The Judge
Of Things Unknown - TheDustyZebra

In the end my vote went to
The Story at 610 McClellan Avenue - Tywin
Holy balls, I've got a vote! Thanks Lumens!

@Ursa major .... Gives us a hero who can no longer stand to see the forces of evil taking life and hope from its victims. So he'll swing his minigun until they are "Out for the Count."

Would that you hero had been standing outside the concert door in Manchester last night.

@The Judge .... Brings us a peril of biblical proportions. But is no ill wind that does not blow good upon some. Even words of fierce judgement and retribution like Isaiah 34:13 – Thorns shall come up in her palaces, and it shall be a habitation of wild dogs can be some as a prophecy of the time when the poor eat of the fat of the land.

Well understood your honor. Those words should always be held together with these: And Jesus said “Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were not willing."

@Kerrybuchanan .... helps us understand why it is that the mythical characters remain uncaught even in a "Steamy Tale."

@ratsy .... Reminds us that when enemy warriors darken the sky, a true hero is the one who is "Going Out Swinging."

@TheDustyZebra .... In the realms mythical the human race was never dominate but great entertainment for those who were. Until one day they weren't. Then the overlords were reminded "Of Thinks Unknown."

I think that would be pushing it, as far as titles go.

As usual with me, I couldn't really narrow my lists down even after loads of rereads last night and this morning. Without further ado, then:

Honourable mentions to Shyrka, Victoria Silverwolf, Chrispenycate, Teresa Edgerton, Culhwch, The Judge and Kerrybuchanan.

Runner up: Cathbad, Tywin and Pyan

Winner: Mosaix

Well done all!:)

Wow!

Sewer Rot Bred, @johnnyjet – A creepy tale of something brewing beneath our feet. What lies beneath?

The Beginning Is The End Is The Beginning, @Culhwch – A final showdown between two immortals will seal the fate of our world.

The Wish Merchant, @LittleStar – This melancholy tale of a forgotten wishing well and its guardian tugs mercilessly at the heart strings.

Out for the Count, @Ursa major – A bombastic story of a vampire protecting the populace... for their own ends.

Isaiah 34:13 – Thorns shall come up in her palaces, and it shall be a habitation of wild dogs, @The Judge – Within this dark tale of impending doom, rich with foreboding, lies a scathing critique of modern culture.

A Steamy Tale, @Kerrybuchanan – Pursued by mechanical law enforcement, a desperate fugitive resorts to unconventional means to escape in this steam-punk magical mash-up.

Going out Swinging, @ratsy – This story of the final days details an apocalypse of biblical proportions but at least one soul will not go down without a fight.

Of Things Unknown, @TheDustyZebra – Many of us feel as if we’re trapped in our daily routines but what if we actually were trapped? Would we know what to do with freedom?

Thanks to Lumens, Victoria and Talysia for the lovely mentions, and to Tywin for the ninja-vote!

Thank you to Victoria, Parson and Shyrka for the lovely reviews; they made my last-minute-panic story sound much better than I think it really is!

<sigh>

not for the first time i have missed the deadline by somehow getting it in my head that it's the 25th not the 23rd. bugger. i had a story that just needed a light polish too.

oh well, at least i still get to vote.

You have until the 26th to vote.

Everyone else has until the 28th. :D

This seems to have been a difficult challenge. Part of it must be that Urban Fantasy is difficult to define. When I applied the rubric that there must be a story, must have an urban and a Fantasy angle there were stories that couldn't make my cut. Here are those I considered contenders:

Cathbad.... “The Hard Truth” .... a story of great sadness.

Shyrka ....”Terminus Est” .... a story of the substitution love willingly makes.

Stuart Suffel .... “Meteriorite” .... a story about what really screams in our dreams.

Heijan Xavier .... “The Beginning of the End of Lies.” .... A story about how reality changes the supernatural.

Stable .... “The Captive Returned” .... The worst story for a parent.

HazelRah .... “From Father to Son” .... A story of family sacrifice.

Phyrebrat ....”Northbound/southbound” .... Another story of sacrifice for the sake of love.

LittleStar .... “The Wish Merchant” .... A sweet story about the intersection of magic and reality.

TheDustyZebra .... “Of Things Unknown” .... A story about what is lost in living.

My vote goes to Cathbad and his great story of sadness.
