DISCUSSION -- MAY 2017 75-word Writing Challenge

I haven't missed the voting yet so I will vote. Other than that, I've been trying to come up with something that resembles a story along with dealing with a broken foot.

Good luck to everyone.

I'd love to read a story about how you broke your foot. Can you get it down to 75 words of urban fantasy?

Cheers for the mention and kind words, Parson. Much appreciated!

Voting time! A fairly long short list today, as ever:

We'll Always Have Moscow, @reiver33
Not even a whimper, @chrispenycate
The Worlds' End, @Robert Mackay
A Toxic Relationship, @Cory Swanson
Sunset, @Hugh
End of the Line, @Parson
As Seen on TV, @mosaix
The Wish Merchant, @LittleStar
Isaiah, etc, etc. @The Judge

The cream of the crop:

Runaway, @TitaniumTi - I loved this sad-yet-uplifting modern take on the classic fairytale.
Meteorite, @Stuart Suffel - I really enjoyed the building sense of foreboding and the mixture of old magic and modern space themes.
NEXT is 6, @Starbeast - This just kept making me smile every time I read it. A beautifully-neat splicing of classic sci-fi noir and fairy tale.
In the end, my vote was helplessly drawn to the siren call of Starbeast's witty mash-up - even the title appealed to my love of terrible puns.

Let's see, a broken foot in seventy-five words or less by Calliopenjo. One Mother's Day celebration ago, I was walking around getting ready to go celebrate. Snap! And the pain from H-E-Double Hockey sticks ensued.

Thanks, Vaz, for the vote, and to all who have had kind things to say about my story!

It's been so long since I last wrote something, it's been so encouraging to see that there are people who have enjoyed it.

Oh well - I got a couple of mentions anyways. Some great stories entered, awesome. I've been looking at some of the older ones from other months and a lot of gems amongst those too :)

I thought there were a lot of really good stories this month. There were several I would normally have listed, but I didn't quite see them as Urban Fantasy. I hope I'm not doing those authors a disservice - that I didn't miss the genre in their tales. But here is what I came up with. Good luck in the voting, all...

Honorable mentions: Cathbad, Shyrka, Victoria, chrispenycate, starbeast, Joshua Jones, Cory Swanson, HazelRah, Phyrebrat.

Shortlist: Theresa, Stable, The Judge, TheDustyZebra.

Vote: mosaix. I really dug this right away, and that favor held through to voting. Well done, mosaix!

Thanks so much, Cathbad, for the listing! :)

Oh-man Calliopenjo, I'm sorry to hear about your injury. I'll pray for your speedy recovery, my friend.

And a big THANK YOU, for your "Stealth Ninja Vote" for me. You made my day shine bright. Take care bro.

Firstly, nice to meet you. Second, you're very welcome. And third, I agree about the fine tales from the past. There are a multitude of amazing writers here. But don't let that hinder you, just have fun, and write what you like.

Thank you Beasty for the listing! :)

You are immensely welcome bro. Stay awesome.
