NaNoWriMo 2017

First week is always a disaster for me - from Halloween to son's birthday is always stupidly busy. But at least I'm not sick yet.

I agree with @The Big Peat that these daily targets are liberating. I've an awful habit of editing as I go, and NaNo really discourages it.

Yes. I know for a fact that some of what I've written so far is nothing but filler. Two characters had a pointless conversation about the new Star Trek show, for eff's sake. But they're WORDS, and that's what matters.

I'll be writing more today, but I currently stand at 3,790. But my fellow Augustans have been busy - passing 262,000 combined words!!

:eek::eek:

I don't lie, but I do fudge. That's because I'm actually on a rewrite. So, some words are new and some are recycled. At the end of a writing stretch, I'm hard-pressed to say exactly how many words I've written, and anyway choosing *not* to rewrite a sentence is itself a writerly act. So I look at total words for the scene and make the adjustment that seems appropriate.

For my Nano participation, word count is not really to show to others anyway. It's to motivate myself and keep moving. I'm resolved to have a beta-ready draft by the end of December, so progress in November is pretty important.

Might as well go for it and see what happens. I'm pantsing for once with this.

Haven't started yet, but plan on it tonight after hours. Got a fragment of an idea bubble, too.

I'm curious though - do people lie about their word counts?

If anyone does, they are just cheating themselves.

I'm at 5,123.

Yes, I'm behind, but my fellow Augustans are more than making up for it - now at 540,000 words!!
