DISCUSSION -- March 2018 -- 75 Word Story Challenge

We're a group, I think, who know this will be handled with fairness toward all involved. Seems the smallest of issues, so just let us know when it's sorted out. ;)

I think it should start again, the entire contest for the month, same theme and genre, same stories (with minor amendments of no more than three words)
Trying to get your story back into the running, eh? It was an amusing story...

These things happen. I’ll keep Sam’s dress ready just in case. :D

I had a first line I liked and I wanted to play with voice and rhythm, so I had fun writing without any intention of it making any sense :D

Ic was for Icarus, though, to keep a shady connection with the theme

And that problem was me, because I forgot to take into account the weekend changeover from GMT to BST.

Apologies to all.

To quote someone who is more gracious than any of us. "Let him without sin throw the first stone." ---- No problem at all Ursa!

---------

I see I got 6? --- 6 votes! That is the second most ever in a challenge for me. So big thanks to @Culhwch and @farntfar for the last two "stealth" votes. Very much appreciated!!

Well done TDZ!

With my normal ninja like quality, I snucked in and voted at the last minute (nearly)

My vote went to @Victoria Silverwolf partly because I liked the way hope was dashed in a couple of sentences, and partly because my first idea was along the same lines, except I was going to go the other way and have the return to Earth from Pellucidar. (Confession: I clicked the 'Like' link, then on rereading the rules, quickly scrambled for the 'Unlike' link!)

I wanted to bring steam into my effort, and actually did some research and found out about the Flying Kettle and all its pros and cons. However, it's quite difficult trying to incorporate technical details into a 75 word story. Plus I only found out about the challenge with four days to go. (Excuses excuses)

Anyway, I enjoyed the challenge, and I think I'm here to stay. You have been warned!

Presuming the final tally and confirmation of results is in from the Electoral College...I mean, the mods...
Um... without wanting to detract from the celebrations and congratulations this morning, I have to report we think there's been a bit of a problem with the poll.
[...]
We're discussing options of how to proceed, but if anyone else genuinely tried to vote last night but couldn't, could you please let us know, as that will help us decide what to do next.
Presuming the final tally and confirmation of results is in from the Electoral Commission :p, then congratulations to TDZ!

A fine story, and well-deserved win.

Congratulations, Dusty! Well done.

Thanks for the mentions, Hugh and chrispenycate.

Now if anyone feels like voting again, we are in the last few days of the voting in the March 100 Word Anonymous Challenge in the Workshop thread. We currently have a tie for first place, so we need more votes. Maybe you can make Dusty a winner again! Thanks!

Congratulations, TDZ!!

A complete dud months for me. Maybe I shouldn'ta used a dream sequence. :/

Hopefully I'll redeem myself next month.

Presuming the final tally and confirmation of results is in from the Electoral Commission :p, then congratulations to TDZ!
Um... well... no...

The member who noticed the oddity over the poll closing time was Teresa, who intended to vote for Parson. And her vote would have brought the scores level. We wanted to ensure there weren’t other disappointed voters, which might have changed things viz-a-viz the leaders, such as a rush of thwarted votes for stories lying in 3rd etc place, but as no one else has come in and responded, it seems Teresa’s is the only missing one. So with Teresa’s vote we have a tie for first place.

Teresa will formally vote when she next comes in, but since we know her intentions, there’s no need to wait, and a tie break poll (with a checked and double-checked closing time...) should be along at some point this afternoon/evening. Since it’s the Easter weekend now, and people might be off chasing Easter bunnies and hunting for their eggs (that’s always worried me actually — are they really platypuses?) voting in the tie-break will be extended for an extra day.

Sorry about all this, folks! Clearly, the lack of cake in the Staff Room is taking its toll on mental acuity here. If you want us to be at our sharpest, get cracking with those cake deliveries!

For those of you that don't read the post attached to the poll....

For the first time, we're using the polling software's automatic closing feature. The poll will be closing at 23:59 on Monday, April the 2nd, GMT, even if I'm safely tucked up in bed by then.

However, the polling software also displays a closing time. This is based on Chrons time, which is set to BST (and so the polling software displays 23:59 AM on April the Third**). Ignore this: the closing time is as stated in the poll thread post and in the previous paragraph of this post.

** - Yes, it uses the twelve-hour clock, just to try to confuse you a bit more....
