Hi Parson! Maybe we have different perspectives on this. I hate-hate-hate guns; I also hate, say, heroin and the people who push it, and blame the addicts who use it less than the drug, or the dealers*.

Sorry, I know this isn't the place to discuss such things. As always, thank you for finding the time to do reviews!

*so of course I am outraged whenever a gun is used to kill an innocent; I blame the shooter, but also the manufacturers who profit. Tough conversation to have, and I'd never be able to explain myself properly, so feel free to ignore...

I did an update yesterday and forgot to save my documents first

I had a hard disk failure a few weeks ago and it was a load of trouble to retrieve my work (I managed it thanks to booting Linux from CD)

Since then I've been using this online authoring tool for the challenges - Yarny - which, apart from not needing to worry about failing disks, has the added benefit of if I'm ever struck by inspiration at work I can get it down.

Of course, the downside is if the site ever goes offline then I'll lose the work anyway, so I just have to remember to export on a regular basis.
Its word count feature is pretty good as well for these here challenges.

I tend to use Google Drive and Microsoft One Drive. You can set them up to back files from hard drive. Plus, if you're like me and edit of a few devices, you can get to them from anywhere. Both give stupid amounts of disc space for free.
