DISCUSSION THREAD -- January 2022 -- 300 Word Writing Challenge #44

ow! That picture dragged out a load of excellent stories - not easy to choose. My short list I trimmed down to Astro Pen, Guttersnipe, johnnyjet, M. Robert Gibson, Rafellin, Stuart Suffel, The Judge and WSDuffy, and you know what? I can't quite remember which ones I voted for (M. Robert Gibson, Stuart Suffel and WSDuffy. I checked)

Thanks to BT Jones for the mention, plus Starbeast, but that, with Guttersnipe,more for the unexpected votes. Plus, as usual Parson and Victoria for the regular critiques.

Pack???

Exsqueeze me!
:oops:
:lol::speechless:
Heh, heh. My horse is asleep at the starting gate. He's making me yawn. ;) :sleep:
Don't worry SB. You've got 5 more days to zoom up from behind.
I'd faint if that happened. o_O I'm not worried about votes or mentions. I'm just experiencing a dry spell for many months. Besides, I have a fun time writing a tale for the 300, because my imagination takes me far, far away into a happy place. :giggle:

Well, I wouldn't want you fainting and injuring yourself...

So, make sure you're always near some cushions!

:D:D:D:D

Anyway...yup, it's good fun for sure, keeps one limber...

Hi all, my votes and top 3
  • @Rafellin - just for "with a tattoo that says ‘Bite My Bullets’ across her left forearm?"
  • @Dan Jones - oh matron, I find there's not enough use of 'phwoar!' in modern literature, such a shame
  • @M. Robert Gibson - I'm still trying to get my head around the imagery of "half-way though that alien invasion by space-spiders and went on a narrowboat cruise on the Norfolk Broads"

Close to the edit - @Daysman, @Cat's Cradle, @Phyrebrat and @Mouse

Thank you for the vote and the kind words!

Good stories this month, all inspired by a beautiful wedding photo. Weddings should be a time for inspiration. :)

I could have had a very long list, but had to cut things down a bit so I wasn't listing everyone (for example, it was painful leaving @Luiglin and @Parson off, when I think each did some of their finest Challenge writing this month... also, I just cheated and fit them in!).

So here we are:

Honorables:
Victoria Silverwolf, Peter V, Stuart Suffel, Perpetual Man

Shortlist:
Astro Pen, Dan Jones, mouse, mosaix, The Judge, abernovo

Votes:
Phyrebrat, farntfar, Daysman

I thought these three entries were especially good, and at changing moments, any could be my favorite of the Challenge.

Thanks so much to @johnnyjet, @Starbeast, @farntfar, @Astro Pen (thanks for the nice words on my title!), and @Luiglin for the mentions.

I'm grateful to @Stuart Suffel and @Phyrebrat for the votes, thank you.

Looks close still. Best of luck the rest of the way with votes, everyone, CC

Well, just when you think you've got the Chrons Challengers taped, they go and surprise you! I was convinced there would be variations of the Bluebeard story, yet nary a one appeared, and the usual splattering of gore and gruesomeness went AWOL, with multiple heartwarming tales instead! We perhaps ought to have wedding images more often!

Anyhow, my shortlist:

Aknot -- The Old Ways -- a traditional tale with a twist
Astro Pen -- Here, Inside -- a story to make one question what it is to be human (with a clever use of "it" and "she")
BigJ -- To dream, to dance, to love... -- a poignant tale of loss and meeting again
Cat's Cradle -- The Color of Fireflies -- lovely images, as always
Luiglin -- ...of the same coin -- a view of a wedding from the other side
Phyrebrat -- Third Player -- a heartbreaking story of spurned love and a fatal decision
Rafellin -- All Rise -- an assassination that made me laugh, not least because of that tattoo!
Stuart Suffel -- Angles. -- double-crosses from all angles

Votes for once were easy, and I went for Rafellin's incongruously-dressed assassin, Phyrebrat's grief-stricken, jealous ghost, and Luiglin's brilliant mirror image of his 75 worder last month. If I'd had a fourth vote, then it would have gone to Stuart for his clever story of multiple deceptions.

Silken ribbon thanks for the kind mentions/shortlistings Stuart, johnnyjet, Starbeast, Phyrebrat, Bren G, Chris p and CC, and many violet-scented lace thanks for the wonderful votes Ian, Rafellin and Astro Pen, and for the stealth vote, Peter!

Had thought I had another day... meh.

Faves (and votes):
@Victoria Silverwolf (vote)
@Rafellin
@Astro Pen
@Phyrebrat
@farntfar (vote)
@Luiglin (vote)
@Dan Jones
@mosaix

Thanks to @johnnyjet , @Starbeast and @Luiglin for your shortlistings / mentions, to @paranoid marvin , @Phyrebrat , @Cat's Cradle , @Stuart Suffel @Elckerlyc , @Guttersnipe , @BT Jones , @AnRoinnUltra and @Dragonsnark for your votes, and as always to @Parson & @Victoria Silverwolf for your essential comments.

The poll has now closed and we have a tie.

A tie-breaker poll will be along soon(-ish).

Darn it, getting 3 votes is supposed to mean you don't have to decide between the ones you like.
A very hard call but @Astro Pen just about edges it for me by, like, the ankle hair of a wasp or something incredibly small.
