DISCUSSION THREAD -- AUGUST 2022 -- 75 Word Writing Challenge

Pitchforks, get em quick and before voting closes and in good time to demand a recount and start general mob mayhem.

Pitchforks, get em before the snails go off, which may already be too late as things smell funky here.

I need shorter marketing, I'm out of breath after all my shouting.

A stream of excellent stories issued forth this month. My shortlist:

Bruce MacLean -- Vengeance
Cat's Cradle -- Of Voices and Water
Elckerlyc -- Water Debt
johnnyjet -- Surfer Dude at the End of the World
Peter V -- Ferryman
Phyrebrat -- Στύξ
THX1138 -- Old Friend
Troyzan787 -- This Time
Victoria Silverwolf -- Confluence
After a good bit of re-reading it came down to a tussle between Elckerlyc's dystopian story of water shortage and a father's sacrifice, and Peter's abundance of water and a ferryman being sacrificed, but Peter just won it for the sheer chutzpah of its main character.

And a mention for BigJ who just pipped MRG for the Terrible Pun of the Month Award!

Many well-filled thanks for the lovely shortlistings/mentions Victoria, nixie, johnnyjet, sule, Hugh, elckerlyc and Daysman. And tremendous tears-of-happiness thanks for the wonderful vote Bruce! (As I went to post my story, I quickly read the entries and saw my story was similar to yours, so I hastily removed the "tsunami" I had in there to put clear blue water between us!)

Excellent month, all! Running late, so here are my lists:

Honorable mentions:
THX1138, nixie, paranoid marvin, Peter V, Starbeast, Elckerlyc, The Judge, Ursa major

Finalists:
mosaix, johnnyjet, Parson

I had picked my finalists earlier today, and just re-read them to pick my vote. I laughed at mosaix's punchline, again, so there's my vote - very funny stuff, mosaix!

Finally, in addition to my earlier thanks I'd like also to express gratitude to Aknot, Bruce MacLean, farntfar, Elckerlyc, and The Judge for the lovely listings. :)

Thx1138 uses his Freeze Ray pitchfork to remove and clear away all of the snaily bits from Bowler's 1 farm, and sends it all far downwind and away from Bowler1. Thx1138 then sits under a tree and thinks about what he did. Think, think, think.

The poll has closed and we have a winner:

Congratulations, Parson!

Wow! oh Wow! It's hard to believe that my story won. I had the idea fairly early on about seeing the true value of water, especially in a space setting. It still took a long time to get it down. But the reward of winning is a true treat.

I'd like to thank those who voted for me. @VRlass @JS Wiig @AnRoinnUltra @johnnyjet @Bowler1 @Luiglin and @M. Robert Gibson

and the mentions I received from @Victoria Silverwolf @Christine Wheelwright @sule @Aknot @Hugh @farntfar @Elckerlyc @Daysman @Cat's Cradle and @Astro Pen --- My apologies if I've missed anyone here.

I'm going to have to think about what I might like to set for the next challenge.
