Book Hauls!

Was my birthday, so got a load of books I've been waiting a long time for.

A couple of behemoth's, first, both coming in at around 1,200 pages each:
The Oxford Handbook of The Archaeology of Ritual & Religion
The Oxford Handbook of Neolithic Europe

Also:
The Beginnings of Rome - Tim Cornell
The Life and Death of Ancient Cities - Greg Woolf
The Origins of the British - Stephen Oppenheimer

Plus I've pre-ordered the DK book, Universe, which is a revised version of the 2014 edition.

So, mostly archaeology/history, with a little space science in there.

I feel pleased. :)

I absolutely adore the great big fat (bit like me) coffee table books by DK, absolutely love them, on History, Science plus Transport, I recommend them all, loved The Aircraft Book, The Tank Book, various military histories and finally Universe plus there is a great one on the history of space flight, they have even done one on shipwrecks!!!

Yes I like cutaways, the old Eagle comic used to do them, got a book a few years ago with cutaways of classic aircraft (got a Lockheed P38 Lightning on the cover, outstanding WW2 fighter), I think they were all from something like The Aircraft Magazine.

Two very different books from bookmooch this morning. An Ian Rankin thriller (not part of the Rebus series) and a book about golf, which became a film with Adam Sandler, which I've not yet seen.
Ironically I woke up this morning unable to see properly. It seems I have a scratch on my eye and everything is blurry. And I can only see through one eye as it is, so I'm struggling to see anything today.,

Sorry to hear that. I hope you heal quickly.

Wasn't Bagger Vance Will Smith and Matt Damon?

Have you seen an opthalmologist? I had what turned out to be a small dose of shingles on one cornea affecting vision - it was also painful. An antibiotic eye gel dealt with it.

It happened to a friend of mine very recently. Apart from getting suitable ointment from an ophthalmologist, one advise is to get an eye patch and cover it up as it is very sensitive to light. Get well soon.

Well the eye gradually cleared up but when I went for an eye test they told me I would need to see a doctor first, so a trip to A and E (ER) would be in order. But it all seems fine now, just back to having crappy eyesight

I hope you do go see the doctor. Maybe there's something they can do to improve your eyesight.

This finally arrived in today's post:

Probably start this right after I finish the Golden Age Batman reprints (issues 1 - 4) which so far are incredibly entertaining and satisfying.

Looks interesting, Dask. With the exceptions of the Doyle and the Kipling, those seem fairly obscure stories.
