Book Hauls!

I especially enjoy the cover art for Star Gate and Starquake.

I just downloaded Jenny Trapdoor by Neal Asher. Anything featuring the Shenanigans of Penny Royal is an instant read.

View attachment 113875

"During the prador-human war the Dark Intelligence, the AI Penny Royal, fractured and went rogue. The manipulations of this insane and incredibly dangerous intelligence were grotesque. It granted wishes that were deals with the devil, and transformed its victims into chimeras of the technological and the organic. Hunted throughout the war and beyond, it finally found redemption and apotheosis, as it moved itself beyond time.

Though Jenny is terrified of the trapdoor spider that has taken up residence in her ship, the arrival of the war in her home system soon dismisses it from her mind. But the spider returns in a way she could never have conceived. . .

Amazon, probably. It's a (currently only, I hope) rather expensive novella. Which is a bit annoying if Neal Asher is now, as it appears, jumping on the £6 for 150 pages band wagon. It appears to be a self published book, which is what I think he has said he's doing with all the shorter stories he has knocking about now. Not available from Kobo, so probably not available (without conversion) on any platform other than kindle (which is also annoying).

I downloaded a coulple of the SF Masterworks books that were 0.99p on kindle.

I've not read any Delaney, but it is a name that crops up often.

Ah, the joy of the secondhand book shelves
Nice clutch of mostly art based books along with a mint copy of the 1965 locospotters book I had as a young teenager. That was pure nostalgia! It survived better than most of the locomotives within.
I don't know anything about Stephen Pinker, I imagine he is one of those Chomsky types but am about to find out. :)
