Book Hauls!

I'm pretty sure that Tim White? cover top left of my post is a second hand reuse too. (An old UK reprint of a Cap Kennedy novel?.... Except the series was renamed Agents of FATE- I think. I'll go dig through the relevent piles when I get home from work.)

Just arrived today from Better World Books. Ex-library copy appears brand new and unread except for maybe being cracked open to check for pictures.

Contains mostly unpublished and uncollected stories.

Nah I'll use sticky tape. Its not a precious book, just a reading copy.
And The Moonstone is a good read all right, a good "entry" novel into the enormous wealth of the 19th-century novel for a lot of people. The villain with the pet white mice crawling over him is a classic baddie. No mice here, and not nearly fat enough:

I tried reading the first part while I was in college waiting for my son but I found it a bit of a slog

It's a long time since I read it. Maybe The Woman in White is a better bet. The opening of that one I do remember. Somehow it's kind of fascinating, this rural scene with the prospect of London, and the idea of walking the night and being in the city by morning -- something like that.
