and a free copy of

A Wrinkle in Time By Madeleine L'Engle (for teacher appreciation weekend at Borders :D)

speaking of bookcases and reading spouses...

my spouse is a high school librarian (I married well;))

so we always have lots of books around. I am more than happy to help her selecet books with the schools money and credit card.

Me happy. :)

Just ordered thirteen books, coming to a total of £88 (£93 with 5% off using my UCAS card):

Hobb - Farseer Trilogy, Liveship Traders Trilogy, Tawny Man Trilogy, Soldier Son Trilogy
Pratchett - Making Money

I can't wait until Friday! :D

now that's a Hobb overdose. I'm envious.

I've bought the first 2 of the first trilogy off Ebay and am anxiously awaiting them.

Just Perdido Street Station by China Miéville.

Just one. And it's been a MONTH!

I read three pages a day. It never happened. I'm beginning to get worried.

Well, I admire the author, but, three pages of descriptions between dialogues... Maybe I am a character+plot person.

Thank you for shaking me out of my slumber with your wealth of titles. I'll buy other books tomorrow. I'll do just that.

You're obviously not married. I have about 6 in my TBR pile and have to sneak books into the book case so I don't get any stick for spending my time and money buying books. If only you could have them downloaded into your brain, or have them read to you subliminally, in your sleep.

So, the latest one I have snuck into the bookcase is Altered Carbon by Richard Morgan, it seems popular with some of us.
You're right, I'm single and free and this may have contriburted to my book binge. Either way I have a very healthy library and I'm quite happy about that.....:D

and Thomas Morton's (brace yourself)

New English Canaan or New Canaan: Containing an Abstract of New England, composed in three Bookes. The first booke setting forth the original of the Natives, their Manners and Customes, together with their tractable Nature and Love towards the English. The second Booke setting forth the naturall Indowments of the Country, and what staple Commodities it yealdeth. The third Booke setting forth, what people are planted there, their prosperity, what remarkable accidents have happened since the first planting of it, together with their Tenents and practice of their Church. Written by Thomas Morton of Cliffords Inne gent, upon tenne yeares knowledge and experiment of the Country. (Printed at Amsterdam, by Jacob Frederick Stam, In the Yeare 1637)

Woo! Now that's a title -- you just don't get them like this anymore :D Reminds me of the full title of Robinson Crusoe.

LOL... yes, indeedy! But, you know... I love books with titles like that. Heck, i love old books... the leisurely way they have of approaching things, the often meaty, deeply thoughtful (and metaphorical or allegorical) way they have of addressing things, so that the books have such richness of meaning....

Morton... well, this one is very much a bit of self-justification (he was one of the earliest people to be kicked out of this country... not only for setting up the infamous Maypole of Merrymount and scandalizing the Puritans by having pagan dances and such... but by selling hard liquor, gunpowder, guns, and ammunition to the Indians.... Well, he was showing the true entrepreneurial spirit....:p)

A great bargain! 800 page book of Robin Hobb's Forest Mage! for just $AU5-:D
My new bookcase is still waiting to be put together :(

I'm going to blame this haul on Addy and Connavar. Addy for eBay and Con for the Lee Child Jack Reacher books.

All by Lee Child:

Killing Floor
Die Trying
Tripwire
Echo Burning
Persuader
The Enemy

Also, Thriller a collection of short stories, edited by James Patterson and containing a Lee Child Jack Reacher story.

Hehe trust me you will thank me for it ;)

Will be interesting to read what you think of Jack Reacher.

I just finished Die Trying, got the urge to get the rest of hole Jack Reacher series at once , im keeping the urge barely in control cause of other books i have already ordered.

Second hand store? Thats way too cheap otherwise for new paperbacks.

Heck only Die Trying cost 80 kroner aka 11 US dollars. Thats the cheapest price there is for a paperback in this town and prolly the hole country when its not second hand.

Ah good to know.

For a sec i thought it was new books and that we over here were getting conned or something.

Excellent charity shop haul on Saturday - I got a complete collection of Silverberg's Majipoor books & the first 3 of Erikson's Malazan series only 99p each :)

Hornet Flight by Ken Follett
Code to Zero by Ken Follett
Dolphin Island by Arthur C. Clarke
A Fall of Moondust by ACC
Earthlight by ACC
The Eyes of Heisenberg by Frank Herbert
Airframe by Michael Crichton
West of Eden by Harry Harrison
Valhalla Rising by Clive Cussler
Trace by Patricia Cornwell

All for $14.68, the latter four being hardcovers. :)

Lately I have gone a bit crazy on books, just buying so much. What annoys me about this though is that litttle little books, for example Allesandro Barrico's Silk costs just as much as a big book. Why is this, I mean its not even half the size of other books. I have purchased a few short novels lately and am suprised at the price of them.

Still I don't begruge the money to much when the book is a great read and nearly all of them are.

Sometimes it can be due to the fact that you're dealing with a limited print run or the book may be created from expensive quality paper in a HB edition with a beautiful cover or they're cashing in on the fact that the book is a top seller. As book like Silk is widely reagrded as a classic which probably adds to its market value.
