Torchwood

Interesting trailer.

My problem is that the only access to BBC3 in the house is inside my teenage daughter's bedroom. I'm sure I can negotiate access somehow. :D Or else, I buy another digi box. They aren't that much now, and supposedly they are going to get much more expensive when the analogue TV masts begin to be switched off and the great rush to buy them begins.

Well, I can't wait.

I think it's daft that BBC3 is showing it - I am sure it will be an instant hit.

The BBC are tending to trailer "risky" programmes on BBC3 before moving them to BBC1. Little Britain is the perfect example of this technique. I suspect that Torchwood will be a bit out the normal mainstream market that BBC1 concentrates on so BBC3 fits the bill.

I happen to work for a British Broadcasting Corporation.... based in a well known capital city of a Southern Westerly country in the UK....a country fond of Dragons, and Leeks. (enough hints yet?)

Torchwood site went live yesterday. www.bbc.co.uk/torchwood

I think I noted from the most recent trailer it's going to be first showing on 22nd October.

Keep your eyes peeled for another "external" torchwood site going live this week..

I had a good look at it. I haven't seen the show yet as it won't be over here until next season (if we're lucky) but this site made me laugh out loud!
Especially the file notes, post-its and the Handling of Alien Artifacts Manual.
Hysterical!

Its Doctor who for grown ups. I`ve seen the first 2 episodes, and have to say i thoroughly enjoyed them.

Another bonus is that I live in Cardiff Bay, where the whole series is set and filmed. :)

I've emailed the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, they screen Dr Who here, about Torchwood. I hope they get back to me soon. I hope I injected my missive with enough urgency!

My toes are curling in anticipation of this show, tell me it's worth all the waiting xxoo

Accidentally watched some of an episode last night. Thought it was well filmed but was otherwise crap and switched off after a while.

Lame plot spoilers:
There's no realism involved in how the dumb cop is treated - rather than be required to use kid gloves with everything, she's allowed to pretty much stumble into creating one mess then another, without the Torchwood team really caring. That really suspended my "suspension of disbelief".

Also, we had a gaseous alien who decided they wanted to take over women's bodies in order to absorb male orgasm energy. Which managed to result in a big lesbian snog match as dumb cop is sent to look after an alien with no brief or experience.

The use of gratuitous sex as a storyline really places this in the SFF pulp trashcan, IMO - it's tacky, mindless, attempt at lowest-denominator appeal.

I mean, seriously, what was the plot synopsis?

"Woman police officer bumbles into setting an orgasm-seeking alien free, which results in her discovering otherwise hidden lesbian desires and tries to have sex with alien."

Come on, is this trash what SFF has become? It has all the science fiction merit of a Jenna Jameson movie involving silver catsuits, but less entertaining.

I guess that means I didn't like it. Just my opinion. :)

Well.. apart from the HUGE spoiler just given by Brian...

You need to watch it with the same overall opinion as when watching Doctor Who...

Its MEANT to be tongue in cheek, camp, gratuitous at times.. its an adventure series not a science fact docusoap..

Its not labelled as "The purest Sci Fi you will ever watch"... I understand if you dont like it, but dont think you need to give such spoilers for others who havent seen it...

Good point about spoilers - added spoiler tag. :)

As for comparison with Doctor Who - it's a family/kids viewing show, so you know you're not going to see something that necessarily tries to stimulate you intellectually.

But Torchwood - it's aimed at an adult audience, but tongue in cheek, camp? I didn't see those things. It doesn't have to be pure SF either - but when the plot synopsis has all the sophistication of a porn shoot, it's just adult in content, rather than substance.

Btw - all, feel free to argue against me. It's just my personal opinion, and there's nothing wrong with people disagreeing with it. :)
