Not Happy

Not that happy either, but I trust Martin - this was not his original intent for this book and he'll make the best of it.
I'm just wondering when A Dance With Dragons will be released? Late 2006? 2007? 2000......?????

You all are sicker than I am. Jon and Arya are brother and sister for goodness sake! I mean emotionally, Sansa and Jon never saw eye to eye.

I feel a little out of the loop, but I can't see why Sansa and Jon would be married together.

AU, by your thinking then the Waynwoods would want Alayne to marry Harry asap, before Baelish fathers a legitimate heir. Okay.

Folks, isn't the Maid of Tart an oxymoron?

It's the Maid of Tarth - but the Maid of Tart would be an oxymoron - and that would be a very ironic, humorous title. And it would fit into Martin's world so well (see Lady Jordayne of the Tor).

I wasn't at all disappointed by A Feast for Crows. It wasn't as good as any of the three previous novels in the series, but it was still excellent and a lot better than most epic fantasy. I was expecting to be disappointed, but was instead pleased. The Cersei and Jaime chapters IMO were brilliant, the Sansa, Arya, later Brienne chapters and last few Dorne chapters were very good as well. It was drawn out a bit, and could certainly have been improved upon, but I think that the slowing down of pace was inevitable at this point, and it would have felt arbitrary if it hadn't taken place. Some of the Samwell and Ironmen chapters were excessive though.

My problem isn't with this book, but it's what the next book may be - I've always enjoyed the Kings' Landings sections more than the Daenerys sections, and I can only see two POVs in A Dance with Dragons that I'm looking forward to - Tyrion and Jon Snow - though Bran's might be good as well, it was far from one of my favourites, and IMO isn't quite as interesting even as Sansa/Arya's are. Maybe we'll see a return to A storm of swords quality by the end of the series though.

I, Brian,

It's 2 a.m., I hope this makes some sense.

A relationship between Jon and Sansa might be a far fetched concept, but it is in the realm of political possiblity. Robb declared Jon his heir, even though Jon rejected Stannis' same offer. So, Sansa as the eldest, Bran as the eldest son, Rickon as the only healthy son, Jon as the ******* son with the semi-legal claim, Tyrion Lannister as Sansa's husband, and Ramsay Bolton with the fake Arya (Jeyne Poole) all can claim Winterfell. To keep the Starks in power, the Bolton's out, the Ironmen out, and the Lannister's out... Littlefinger and Sansa will maneuver and plot. Who's to say the Night's Watch won't get involved? The Lannisters seem to think Jon is already meddling in politics.

Since the Starks are the good guys, it seems horrible to think of incest on their part. The Targaryens, Lannisters, and perhaps Tyrells are already doing it... but since they are the bad guys, it's okay.

The probable scenario for Jon and Sansa would be if 1) the Other and Others are defeated permanently, 2) the Wildlings are pacified, 3) there is no need for the Night's Watch, 4) the North has not healed from the wars, 5) the Lannisters or Greyjoys seem to be about to legally take Winterfell, 6) Jon turns out to be Sansa's cousin and not her brother, 7) Jon is declared the legal heir of Robb, 8) Sansa needs to escape the clutches of Littlefinger and/or Tyrion, and 9) the realm needs to be united against the Targaryen threat.

Now, Raven can post and shoot my musings down.

Here's a crazy thought just to stir things up:

What about Jon and Daenerys? I know they might be cousins (according to another poster...sorry, forgot who!) and I know Dany might not (prob not, but WHO KNOWS in this world) be able to have any heirs, but Targaryens married each other and if a Lord Commander of the Night's watch is going to break his vows anyway, he might as well do it for Dany--I dont see his, or her, wed-able (?!) equal any where else.

Hmmm?

Before I was able to read AFfC, I was very skeptical about how Martin was going to pull off the split story-line. I was one who felt Martin should have divided the book chronologically and not regionally.

After finishing book four, I feel even stronger about my previous position. It would have been better if the entire story-line was moved along together.

Martin is a genius, but there is no author that could have pulled off what he's attempting. Although I enjoyed reading book four, I missed the POV's not included of Jon, Tyrion, Daenerys. When I read book five, the enjoyment should be greater because it is a completion of his planned story arc.

Don't get me wrong, I love anything and everything about ASoI&F and really enjoyed the POV developments of book 4. It's just that it felt like eating an oreo cookie without the creamy center.
