1.1/ 1.2 : Broken Bow. Parts 1&2

okay - tossing out my 2 cents (maybe more)

i watched this - it was well done - Bakula was good - (but i like him, so i'm a bit biased) -- he does bring his beagle (it's not a puppy - it's a dog - full grown) - he talks to it too - kinda weird, but hey, Picard had fish. and remember - this is the 'early' stuff - before Kirk and Spock and really well working transporters and such -- don't you take your pet w/ you when you travel??

as far as the accents? i wasn't paying attn - i was trying to catch the dialogue - AND i was too busy being annoyed by the poorly written Vulcan dialogue and the badly portrayed T'Pol (or whatever her name was) -- correct me if i'm wrong, but Vulcan's do NOT use contractions, correct?? she used so many i was almost beginning to count them, and some of her reactions were too 'human' for a Vulcan -- i mean, i can understand that it's difficult to 'react' w/o emotion, but if you know you're gonna be a Vulcan (a popular alien race for ST fans) i would think you'd try pretty damn hard to get it right (i'm terrible at acting, so i wouldn't be good for this, but if i was given the role, i'd study hard to make sure i got as close as i could!) -- anyway --

aside from the Vulcan chic, the show was pretty good -

oh - and James Horan (let me list his cred's here - Highlander, couple of ST's - i think he was on TNG and DS9 - but not sure, some others....) is the 'mysterious voice from the future' -- he has a recognizable voice - and Horan is a GREAT villain!

oh - is it just me, or was everyone pronouncing Qo'nos like KRONOS?? (just something that caught me as odd)

one more thing (and i really did enjoy the show, i'm just really bad about nit-picking) --- the Vulcans reminded me of the Aeschyn (sp?) on Stargate (see ep 2010) -- holding back the humans - tho the Vulcans weren't trying to take over Earth -

okay- i kinda liked the (i think he was the weapons officer) who was worried about his equipment not getting to the ship on time - he was amusing -- and the Doctor (who looks like a Cardassian) was pretty funny -- and i liked the Comm officer - she's supposed to have a really good ear for languages - which is great b/c they don't have the universal translator yet - tho she's a bit 'snippy' at Capt Archer -- she's frustrated, i guess, b/c Klingon's have a weird dialect ---

this show has potential -- let's hope they know what they're doing and run w/ the good stuff and pay enough attn to the fans to keep the show alive!!

Okay, my 2 credits worth.

I can see the hate mail coming my way. :sigh:

I thought it was well done. Especially once I got my head out of the noble glorious federation of the future.

The characters are a little raw. Humans are going into big bad outter space for the first time. There is no federation. There's no prime directive. They gotta send the cowboys out to check the lay of the pasture before they let the sheep out.

They're not that diplomatic. They're scared but don't want to show it. And they're tired of the Vulcans treating them like precosious kids.

This is the beginning of starfleet. Still rough and with equipment they're not sure will work quite right.

I think if any of us now were to be dumped on that ship, we'd fit right in. The people are close to what we are like now. Perhaps one of them will be your decendents.;)

first.. Didn't read the rest of this thread... Hold up read some of it. Dave the whole reason the technology is well as you put it so bad is cause they go back to first contact with Klingons.

Second...Okay anyone of you guys seen it yet? It was really cool! saw it yesterday!
~~~~~~~~~~
Okay First of all ... the storyline was interesting though... it was like none of anything we've seen has happened yet. very cool.
second the flash back sequences were interesting. I have a feeling they are gonna play a magor role in the series.
third The best character in my opinion so far is the Vulcan..T'Pol.
I found the captain,Archer, to be predictable in some ways...
the species thing is played in a magor way but you gotta appreciate what they do with it.
Generally really liked it. I liked it a heck of a lot better than any episode of Voyager. This is a drama show, not a PC-New Agey show. Yeah.
I love that things don't work very well. The equipment is untrustworthy, the ship doesn't go all that fast, it shakes and rattles in 'turbulence' (for lack of a better word). Archer is a smart ass who isn't afraid to snark off at the vulcan ambassador or pretty much anyone else who gets in his way. The humans are *real* people. Everyone doesn't get along. Space is full of unknowns, and the Terrans are the new kids on the block, with littler guns and weaker ships. There's a whole lot of potential for actual DRAMA here. A good old-fashioned space opera.
A couple of complaints. Yeah, I thought the theme music sucked big time. Sounded like a John Denver ballad. It's gotta go, imho. And I found that shower scene pretty gratuitous. It made no sense (if you're going into decontamination, you don't wear clothes, you don't share the shower with someone else, and if you have to put some sort of lotion on, well, you gotta put it everywhere, if you get my drift.)
The dog is cute. I just hope it never ends up 'saving the ship'.
Overall I liked the show. I liked the fact that not everything worked the way that it should.
One thing that bothered me was the way the Vulcans where portrayed. It just didn't fit with my image of them as seen in the other series or when they talked about early history. I guess that is their Prime Diretive making us figure it out for ourselves.
Liked the dog, thought it made perfect sense for Archer to talk to it. After all most pet owners admit talking to their animals and the ones that don't aren't being truthful. :D It gives him something to talk to instead of just talking to the air.
I thought the actress that did T'Pol did a good job. Amazing how you can make anything sound logical. The Doctor looks like an interesting character.
It will be interesting to see what they do with this show. It definetly has potential.
It probably will when the writers run out of ideas.
O u know its just gonna hppen..
I've watched the show a few times since it aired and thought it was pretty good. My take on the Vulcans is that they see themselves as protecting the humans from the unknown and at the same time trying to keep them from making the kind of mistakes that could cause the region to become even more chaotic.
I thought T'Pol was the best part of the show, those looks ahe gave Archer after he bitched her out were great(she has gorgeous eyes). Based on the flashbacks there is much back story to be told on the Archer/T'pol relationship. I though Bakula did a good job, the only bit of dialog I thought that didn't sound right was the talk at the end of the episode between he and T'Pol. It was how he said it that didn't sit well with me, she mentions pride then he say's "Perhaps I should" didn't seem to come out right......delivery Scott!, delivery!
Oh and I like the theme, like the show its different than the other Trek shows.
I think the series is going to be very interesting, I'm on board!
I have just downloaded it from the net and gonna watch it now...
The Link? ...where's the link,Neo? You gonna keep it to yourself:D
Don't worry, it was probably this one...
it will when we get to season 7 and the writers are thinking..... arrrrhhhh what can we write about...
i'm hoping the dog doesn't get made acting captain --
well - at least he won't connect himself to the ship via the holodeck - this ship doesn't have one -- can't -- NCC-1701 didn't - and this pre-dates that -
hmmmm - has the dog been to Starfleet?? or is he really intelligent?
at least his name's not Wesley ---
always something in Trek... always
