1.1/ 1.2 : Broken Bow. Parts 1&2

i know this comment probably belongs in the TNG thread - but since we're discussing the dog not being named wesley --

Wesley is Roddenberry's middle name -- and on TNN last night, Wil Wheaton was on there and he was telling a story - he said that he was talking to his mother and said that "Wes" was kind of a nerdy name and he was wondering if they would change it, and him mom said-- it's the creator's middle name, probably not, so shut up. -- (or something to that effect, i wasn't really listening b/c i don't like wil wheaton) --

anyway -- just some trivia = and i thought it was funny --

and - woohoo - the dog is not named Wesley ---

honestly - i don't remember what the dog's name is ----

The dogs name was Porphos. It just sat there and looked cute, and T'Pol sniffed at it. It's only a Beagle, it could at least be a man's dog, like an Alsation, so that he could take it on missions and it could attack Sulibans!

I've just watched 'Broken Bow'. I think everything that's wrong with it has been said already, but no one has said how good it was. It is definitely Star Trek for 2001. I saw elements of 'alien', 'Star Wars' and other things mixed in -- but not ripped off. There was loads of action. The new aliens were believable, the temporal aliens helping the Sulibans obviously will be a running theme and we will only get to know little bits and pieces about them. The technology on the ship seems to be about right.

I do hope they develop Hoshi Sato more. Asking for seatbelts wasn't a very funny joke, and if she is going to complain about everything, get worried about everything and get space sick each week, then we potentially have another 'Neelix' in the making!

Overall 9/10.

PS: Two more things.

At the beginning when they are painting a shuttle someone says "You've missed a spot" but I was sure that he said "You, Mr. Spock?"

When Phlox puts a creature on Archer's leg he says that he is cauterizing the wound. Wouldn't a phaser rifle cauterize it's own wound?

How did you manage to watch it Dave? Did you get a copy off Neo?

oh - is it just me, or was everyone pronouncing Qo'nos like KRONOS?? (just something that caught me as odd)

That is the correct pronounciation I think. I just saw "The Undiscovered Country" and that's the way they say it, even though it was made after they established "Qo'nos" in TNG. In TNG "Heart of Glory" they said Klingons came from "Kling" (also known as "Klinzhai"), but then they forgot that they had, and my encyclopedia now explains it away as saying Kling is a surburb on the planet.

I prefer the "Klingot" the army general says at the start of 'Broken Bow'.

Annette, I sent you a PM.

Hee-hee Neo.... :D

Okay I don't see what's so wrong with the theme song. Just cause it's so different? I mean it's not like any of the other theme songs but it's supposed to be different. It'd be like if you just started watching ST now and this was the first series you saw. it would make the other theme songs seem wierd and out of place. think about it.;) Give it a chance before you put it off as just plain awful.

Glad you saw it Dave.;)

And the correct spelling of the Dog's name is Porthos.:) I think the Dog makes the captian have a more down to Earth outlook on things. you know making it so he's more 'one with the Human race' sorta thing.

so - are we gonna have to establish the "YASTI"'s?? "Yet Another Star Trek Inconsistency"???

(very similar to the YAHI's of Highlander - but Highlander is a lot worse)

I was thinking that it had a Greek origin, but I see now that it is from "The Three Musketeers"-- Athos, Porthos, and Aramis.:rolly2: Thanks.

And Star Trek does have inconsistencies, but there aren't many and they aren't huge, because they have been careful about them.

Sure did.... downloaded it from the net

Ok UK fans.... its your turn to comment...

Am counting down the hours till Enterprise tonight, double eppy too. It'd better be good. :D

annette :)

Well I just watched it. I have not ready any spoilers really about the series or what is happening and have not watched any episodes. I remember when I first heard they were going back to Star Trek early history I thought .. oh no... but I was pleasantly surprised.

One of the best opening double episodes I have seen. Good story line, characters forming pretty quickly. Really good. Looking forward to more!
