Batman Begins (2005)

Re: Batman Begins!

I am looking forward to seeing this one!!! How was Bale as Batman? American Psycho's Patrick Bateman in a costume??

Re: Batman Begins!

I haven't seen this yet as just released in Oz but it has had some excellent reviews from the 2 main movie critic TV programs that are aired in Melbourne on a weekly basis (unamanimous 4 stars out of five rating across the board).

Most agreed that it was on a par or better than the original Batman movie and as SEF has alluded to already quite simlar to the classic comic book and very dark and gothic in nature which are the kinds of movies I really enjoy!!

Apparently a beautifully filmed and well crafted piece of cinema.

Bale as Batman is supposed to be excellent and the best Batman yet.

Will try and check this out over the weekend.

Over and out.. :D

Bale is fabulous, made Burton and the Schumacher aberrations look flaky. Bale was able to convey Wayne's deeper psychology and emotions and complexity than the others. Keaton, Kilmer, and Clooney were a joke in comparision, wrapped in a nice terribly polished Hollywood product but ultimately shallow package.

Re: Batman Begins!

Keaton, I thought was good... Much better than the other lousy portrayals!!

Schumakers "attempts" were pathetic... How in the world did he get to do so many before he was booted???

Bale strikes me as more brooding... all his parts have been dark and brooding, so this is not so bad... And how crap is Michael Caine??? There can be ONLY ONE ALFRED!!!

Re: Batman Begins!

Michael Caine is fabulous and because of this legendary actors presence, Alfred as a character truly comes into his own, the butler is no mere piece of the decorum but a true human being with emotions and personality. Yes, personality, not a walking hat rack.

Re: Batman Begins!

Michael Gough gave the part a certain kind of "air"... And I could believe that in an earlier incarnation, he was a British Secret Agent or whatever Alfred Penworthy was felt to be..

Michael Caine hasn't done anything for me since the 60's!!! ;)

See Mona Lisa or the more recent The Quiet American
Would have to agree that Caine is particularly good in the Quiet American as is Brendan Fraser, probably the first film I've seen that shows this guy can act, not to say that I didn't like The Mummy movies but they were obviuosly much more of a light entertainment role.....

I'll post my thoughts on the Batman movie after the weekend LOL!.. :D

Re: Batman Begins!

amazing movie. best batman by far; a great cast and a great story.

I think I've said this around here before, but I'll say it again...for proof that Brendan Fraser can act, see "Gods and Monsters". Fabulous job in a fabulous little film. And definitely not "light entertainment".

Nah, thanks... Like I said, hasn't done anything for me since the 60's!!! :D
Whoa you make it sound like he was paying your bills and doing your laundry in the 60's. It's daft IMO to ignore an actor's good efforts and then say that he hasn't been doing anything worthwhile.

Re: Batman Begins!

I'm merely pointing out that the 60's were his best time... Zulu, The Italian Job, Alfie, the Harry Palmer series of movies were excellent...

Okay, there were the occasional good parts, like in Get Carter, Without a Clue and Muppet Christmas Carol; but for the most part, past the 60's, his parts and acting ability have left me cold... Just my not so humble opinion... :D If others disagree, then that is their choice... ;)

Oh, and for the record, I won't let him do my laundry - not after last time!!!! :D

Re: Batman Begins!

Bale was good, but not as good as Keaton. Did it seem to anybody else that when Bale puts on the Batman suit he's trying too hard to be Batman? I know that sounds strange, but to me some of his talking and actions just seemed forced. I enjoyed the movie a lot, but don't think it's the best Batman. The plot to destroy Gotham was pretty weak, and the Batmobile was pretty ugly. And it's certainly not the best comic book adapted movie. All in all a fun movie and one I would recommend though.

Re: Batman Begins!

Batman Begins is a great movie it is by far the best batman movie and I think it is one of the best comic book adaptations ever.
